Re: The primary masquerade problem of a high-society vampire
Mimic Mortal Necromancy, Sorcerer/Wizard Spell level 4 can only be cast by a vampire This spell is one created by Strahd Von Zarovich to better disguise himself amongst the living. Yes, for a spellcasting vampire with access to that spell and while it helps, it doesn't overcome the weaknesses, Meph...

Re: The primary masquerade problem of a high-society vampire
I think that while it makes a lot of sense for liches to squirrel themselves away in a distant dungeon, a vampire with sufficient wealth is much better off integrating himself into high society, especially given his dietary needs. I strongly disagree and the reason is that a vampire cannot pass off...

Re: The primary masquerade problem of a high-society vampire
If by "socialite", you mean a perpetually partying rake, as another poster pointed out that's exactly the role Vladimir has adopted in Borca. I agree that particular role would not work for vampires because of their inability to drink alcohol. Without doubt there are vampires who insert t...

Re: The primary masquerade problem of a high-society vampire
There is another option, which could bring food to the vampire: posing as a generally debauched rake. The kind of handsome party animal who never wakes up before evening and parties the whole night through. He's so scandalous, but his massive charm makes him seem exciting. He's every rich gambler's...

Re: The mysterious fate of Henri DuBois
Twenty years ago she revealed herself to him as a wererat and attacked him, trying to infect him with lycanthropy. That is a bit of understatement: She tied him in bed and was biting him again and again to turn him, from what I remember from the novel. He was beyond terrified. I don't think he was ...

Re: Intrigue and secrecy in a venice
Just to be clear: I don't think Pont-a-Museau is Ravenloft's Venice. Yes, it has the canals but the names are French-sounding and it is not a maritime Empire, which was a very important part of Venice. It is also much smaller than Venice was.

Banes for... human cleric?
Dear fellows, I need a bit of brainstorming help. In my non-Ravenloft but Ravenloft-influenced 5th edition game, there is an upcoming situation that involves NPCs. Here is the situation, in short: Clerics and Paladins in this world are "divinely blessed" i.e. have good stats and are on ave...

Re: 2nd edition rules question, please help!
Strongholds and Followers is another good supplement for 5E too. Reminiscent of Basic (Expert/Companion/Master) rules D&D. Nice touch. I thought anyway. Never heard of the company that made those. Is it good? It is very expensive for my tastes but through the years I have bought some such suppl...

There are some good parts in the new books, for every taste though. Specific domains or changes have received praise from various people. Perhaps VRGtR is not for you, but I don't think it would be "a waste of money" but at worst "I wouldn't get my money's worth".

Man, I have forgot how needlessly complex 2e was. Never liked it. Only 4e was worse.

Re: Is Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft worth getting if you own all the 2E/3E books?
Honestly, new Dementlieu is a great setting. And it works as an island of terror. I love the idea I read somewhere of Saidra's Dementlieu being connected with the Core Dementlieu, in the sense that pantries in Dementlieu-Core swap with Saidra's Dementlieu occasionally, with food appearing in Saidra'...

Re: Could Transgenic Humanity fit in Lamordia?
While Transgenic Humanity could apply to Lamordia, I would like to say that the Fraternity of Shadows is also working with something that could be considered a way to transcend humanity. Azalin was doing a lot of effort to transcend lichdom. My point is: This is not just Lamordia; there are other su...
