Re: A less problematic Sri Raji
Fair enough. Yes I was talking a bit about how it basically uses a version of the Hindu religion that feels like it belongs in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom... “This is Kali. Kali is evil. These evil people worship Kali. Kali makes them kill people. The end.” Several of my players commented o...

A less problematic Sri Raji
Good day everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted, but it’s good to see the community still going strong. In a campaign I am running, I have a PC who originally hails from Sri Raji. We’ve never been there in campaign, but as part of the character’s journey I wanted to have her return home a...

Re: Random hooks thread
Found this old legend... Definitely some inspiration to be had. From Wikipedia: The story goes that the ship was at sea on 13 February, 1748, because her captain, Simon Reed (in some accounts named Simon Peel), had just been married, and was celebrating the occasion with a cruise. According to sever...

Re: Which Domains Actually Get Used Frequently? [Semi-Poll]
Most frequent uses: Darkon, Richemulot, Dementlieu, Invidia, Barovia, and Borca. I've used the Falkovnians as villains often, but never had the PCs go there.

Re: Campaignstorming time! - Fitting the NPC puzzle together
Here are a couple of quick/random ideas that you might find useful... Note - I tend to be a bit more "cinematic" with my campaign, so they might not work for you, but maybe they spark an idea. How the Vampiress knows PCs are there: The Vampiress has been in P-a-L for a while hunting The St...

Re: Campaign starting ideas
Two more that I've seen used: "The ones who survived" - A favorite of the disaster and horror genre: The PCs are the (only?) survivors of a calamity of some sort. This could be a shipwreck, opera house fire, earthquake, forest fire, zombie apocalypse, vampire bloodbath, etc. The opening mo...

Re: Campaign starting ideas
A variant on the "inn" that I have used: All the PCs are looking for a different missing friend/relative, and they have all disappeared at the same inn. Another old classic: The group is captured independently and bands together to escape. Alternatively (also used many times before): "...

Re: Population and Size Variants
Not sure this counts as an option, but: I just don't sweat it. My Ravenloft is as big as it needs to be at any given time. Travel times are at the speed of the plot. The players have never even asked about populations. "Big City" "small town" "tiny hamlet" have been go...

More info from Forbes here ... Interesting quotes: "To solve this problem, Wizards has been looking back at each edition of the game going back to 1974, and identifying core rules that make the game work best. [...] Mearls says the new edition is being conceived of as a modular, flexible system...

Re: 5e announced!
Wait, so how long was the 4e cycle then? It definitely feels shorter than 3e (although that may be skewed by the midway release of 3.5...) According to Wikipedia: 3.0 -> 2000 3.5 -> 2003 4.0 -> 2008 And I guess we can assume: 5.0 -> 2012 or 2013...? I'm personally a fan of 4e and use it in my games...

Re: Iconic moments of Castle Ravenloft
Thank you much for the feedback good sirs! Will definitely be using the wight trap! Love that one.... And the Organ bit is sooo cheesy, but still a can't miss. :) @Deepshadow: If you don't mind talking a little bit more about how you used the Guardian that would be great. Did you add any additional ...

Re: Help for lull in story
At the moment you have a frontier town, no magic, but you want some combat for the next session... It may seem odd to say this, but you might want to look to westerns for inspiration. Maybe you could just have some troublemakers/bandits wander into town (by road or by sea) and steal/pick fights/etc....

Iconic moments of Castle Ravenloft
I am nearing the end of a long campaign in which my PCs will need to enter Castle Ravenloft to rescue one of their own, (potentially end Tatyana's suffering), and try to escape with their lives. The trick here is that I will need to pare it down to be completed in one (long) session. I ran this adve...
