Currently playing with a non-D&D system, because I needed a break from d20.
But if I was using d20, I'd be going 3.5/Pathfinder.
Because I stole all the PDFs and own the books, so that's what's cheap.

Totally out of curiosity, but has Ravenloft had a native elf population long enough to know their life expectancy? Because looking at the life expectancy of elves (even using the 300-year benchmark), and looking at when domains with elves were revealed, it seems entirely plausible that the first elf...

It's going to depend a lot on where the group's from, and what's going on at the time, because I try to slightly skew how things are presented to reinforce the biases that the characters would have. In my current continuity, with an all-Darkonian party set in BC 851, I'm playing up Strahd as a despo...

Borrowing shamelessly from George R. R. Martin here... The Core doesn't use homing pigeons to carry messages; they use trained ravens instead. It's an open secret that Falkovnia has a standing falconry corps, tasked with intercepting ravens whenever Vlad Drakov gets suspicious. It's also taken for g...

The Curse of the Fog Every time you're hit by the Thing in the Fog, you get another twinned thesis guards and wards cast on you. That's the short version. Guards and wards is a complex spell, though, so here's what it does and how it works. The Size of the Curse: The Curse of the Fog covers about 8...

The Thing in the Fog
This started off as a reply to Zettaijin's "Mirror image gone wrong" thread, about a benign spell gone horribly wrong; I took it to a thread of its own once I realized how long my post had become. So without further ado, I offer you my favorite living spell: a twinned thesis guards and war...

A pike up the backside would be threat enough to make me stop calling Vlad 'Margrave.' Why do people insist on doing it, if it gets them in so much trouble? :?: Outside Falkovnia, it's mostly power politics. Vlad's power isn't organized on feudal lines, and his land claims beyond Falkovnia aren't r...

A few days ago I mentioned that I was reworking the Curse of Tzeentch rules to get a more Gothic vibe. My current draft of the first table is posted here for your reading pleasure. (Note that there are two other tables of Dark Manifestations, in the event that you somehow roll triples or quadruples....
