Yeah, I definitely could see this working, as a DM. I'm not sure how thrilled players would be with it, though. It depends on what level you most like playing at. If your favourite levels are 12+ it probably isn't the system for you. I like 5-8 myself and like to end the game around 10-12 so I real...

I'd still allow monsters with more than 6 HD, though. 9HD monsters are scarier when they are just flat out tougher than any human. Of course! Anything up to CR 10 is fair game for a normal encounter and you could have up to CR 13 or so for the toughest creatures the PCs could encounter. The restric...

This pretty much eliminates prestige classes from the mix, but that doesn't much bother me. I'm in the process of creating Prestige Class feat chains. After 6th level characters can choose to take a capstone feat (as is normal for e6) or enter into a Prestige feat chain. Hmmm.. new feats but not sk...

Does anyone play (or have played) 3.5 e6?
It is a houserule where character level is capped at 6 and afterward you just gain feats. It changes the scope of the world too b/c NPCs are capped at 6 too. It sounds perfect for Ravenloft. I think I'm going to start a side project to get an e6 game ready for the next time I start a campaign. What ...

Thanks for the help. I ended up taking some of the advice offered here. The culprits kidnap a local recluse wizard and make it look like he's doing it. Of course when they lose their memory they forget that he is locked in a cellar and he is currently starving. I've got 3 main points of interest, th...

I'm just saying, give them a reason for their hate, and you can use that to plant more clues. Maybe an traveling elvish wizard saved their town from some threat when they were trying to do the same with science, and the shame drove them to it. Or an evil elf kidnapped one of their kids for some mag...

Chemical gases, bombs etc would work nicely. These things are similar to certain spells. Certain chemical weapons can cause blindness, and there has to be a container of some sort, no matter how well hidden. That's what I was thinking. I would recommend writing out a plot tree with multiple paths/e...

Help with a Darkonese mystery
So we're about to start a new game. All 3 characters are investigators or searchers of knowledge of one type or another (should be a good game). (Human Swashbuckler investigator, Halfling Wizard/Rogue with ranks in alchemy and Elven Cleric of Ezra out to prove the Lawful Evil sect has it all wrong) ...

No offense- this has no place in the setting. To each their own. I don't like high fantasy either. It's all in how you portray it really. I really don't need the lecture on Ravenloft or gothic horror. I thought other people could find a use for it. It is a good tool for a campaign that explores the...

Laying down limitations on what the Dark Powers can or cannot achieve seldom is. Better for the DM to rationalize why they might choose not to interfere with such a being, if you want to use one IYC. Well the Dark Powers would have to allow for him to come into existence in the first place. But onc...

It seems it'd do far, far too much damage on the DoD, though, and I expect that if one DID show up in Ravenloft, the DPs would Take Steps to ensure he/she/it left again or was eliminated as quickly as possible... You could always say that the reality wrinkles keep the DPs from directly affecting hi...

The Unraveller
I came across this on another message board (created by Stratovarius) and it screamed Ravenloft to me. I think it would make a great NPC or even a good PC. The child of an outsider would fit perfectly here and could make for a good apocalyptic campaign. Unraveller "I am the antithesis." –S...
