With cyanide, realistically, you'd just plain die. No save, no last words, no treatment possible ... even in a d20 Modern game. Only with a high dose. Toxicities: Cyanide is the least toxic of the "lethal" chemical agents. The LCt50s of AC and CK by inhalation have been estimated to be 25...

Of course, in real life most of the poisons in the DMG would outright kill a person with little chance of survival. Those poisons are actually pretty accurate. Take arsenic for example. If you compare it to the LD50 of arsenic the d&d stats are very accurate. The problem is that characters abov...

The party can work together too. A CdG is a full round action that provokes AoO. When someone gets paralyzed the other party members can rush over to help. You could house rule that if an AoO does damage the CdG is foiled, since your victim is helpless but the mean fighter standing over top of him i...

A little lovecraft goes a long way.

Most adventures I run deal with humanoids and so if the PCs face something truly bizarre it is often quite horrifying.

But then why are you arguing and trying to convince us healing is bad? The thread asked for our thoughts on 4e. I'm explaining what I don't like with some examples. I'm not saying healing is bad, I'm saying I don't like healing surges. It isn't d&d to me . I put the disclaimer on my comments to...

A fighter, a thief, a mage, and a cleric are fighting an orc. The fighter charges at the orc, bellowing his war cry as he brings his sword down hard onto the orcs head. The orc raises his shield in time and blocks the attack, but his knees buckle from the force of the fighter's onslaught (subtract ...

I'm not arguing for realism in the sense of our world. Magic by its definition is outside the laws of physics. Hit points aren't realistic but that doesn't mean I want my fighter to be overtly magical. Its the flavour that interests me. You're assuming HP represent actual wounds, which all editions ...

You can only use them after a five minute rest, so they're not of much use when you're busy running for your life. Think of a world where everyone can spontaneously heal themselves...I don't even want to start imagining the changes you would have to make. Everyone would have a completely different ...

(Dread Pirate Roberts, anyone? One never likes to think about these things, but if Wesley really spent five years as the Dread Pirate himself he's got a lot on his conscience.) Actually the whole point of taking the name Roberts is to get people to surrender to him. He also had the position thrust ...

This is a little off topic but has anyone written up an alternative system to powers checks here? Something that doesn't involve rolling dice would be best. I was thinking a point based system might be good. As it stands I see 2 problems with the system. The complete randomness gets me...and the amo...

It is interesting to see how the Ravenloft people feel about 4e. More systems means it is easier to find the style of play that you want out of the game. To me the intent that I feel when I read 4e is against what I want out of the game. From the half-dragon/celestial/demon core races to healing sur...

On another note, Shaun of the Dead is imo the best horror parody ever, toppling even the "Night of the Vampires" by Polanski and Return of the Living Dead. I like Dracula: Dead and loving it. Mel Brooks does a great job at keeping his parodies serious enough to actually be a movie while b...

I like the cover design.

I have a lot of books. It helps keep them all "ravenloft 3e".

I really liked this line. I got back into d&d b/c of Ravenloft 3e.

Now that I have practically all of them I'm a happy man.
