Re: What I would like for QtR#30
I'd like to see fresh new ideas for Ravenloft. NPCs, monsters, organisations, locations, a ton of adventure seeds, things of that nature. Maybe under something like "Ravenloft: Legends", but featuring both urban and rural varieties, in which only the reader can determine fact from fiction....

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
That's the part I get. It's brilliantly simple really. They "give" their game to their fans, but maintain a legally-binding option for quality control (it's not self-help if somebody else wrote the book all the same, so gifting the game like this is equally subject to the harsh judgement o...

Re: Best system for Ravenloft?
I haven't done it, but the thought did cross my mind that Free League's Vaesen RPG could be a cool system to run Ravenloft through. Especially if you want a more basic, grounded/mundane approach. https://freeleaguepublishing.com/en/games/vaesen/ Casting the Runes (Design Mechanism) could be cool too...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
Nice optics/turnabout, but is any OGL truly necessary? https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/01/beware-gifts-dragons-how-dds-open-gaming-license-may-have-become-trap-creators https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2023/01/19/dungeons-and-dragons-open-game-license-wizards-of-the-coast-explained/ Thi...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
I got the core books (and bunch of other WotC books that were questionable buys; gave up after RL though; KS is solid enough though), and together with the forever imaginations of others like me (imagination runaways) that's all I need. Great that 5E has minimal game go time online, especially compa...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
Yeah, I read about that subscription leak earlier this evening/afternoon. If it's true (there was a same/similar-sounding confirmed hoax some time ago?), the corporate Wizards are so detatched from the game that's it's both sad and hilarious. $30 bucks a month if I want to share my homebrew? I don't...

Re: Help ameliorate an end of story arc horror scene!
A long time ago back in high school myself and a few buddies were taking an early lunch, when, we happened to come up on a guy and gal arguing in the middle of the sidewalk. It was very heated to say the least. Anyway, buddy grabbed missus real hard by the arm and threw her to the ground. I stepped ...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
Personally, I don't attribute any company with anything remotely akin to altruism. Business is self-serving by nature, and moms and pops are moms and pops for a reason. If Paizo is confident that the current OGL is a safe harbour for their expressions of D&D (my gut says they agree, at least in ...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
This is Star Wars, but with a "what if the Galactic Senate never sided with Palpatine?". Rebellion is small right now but real enough, and Anakin, though trained by Darth Sidious, has decided to cut all ties and directly oppose him. Though, he's still Anakin when it comes to his spite and ...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
System neutral OGL/ORC. Thoughts? Personally, I don't really see the point outside of that "hit 'em when they're down" factor. Campaign promise. Moral victory translation into (hopeful) investment/sales. Fan-thunder steal. Etc. Indie pushback because of royalties? They will (or risk ) esse...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
Nice mess. I'm impressed. Haha, yeah really! Corporate ineptness and pouncing for the title belt, played out in public, makes for a good chuckle indeed. One corp's crap is another corp's treasure I spose. Whatever. Dunno about any of you but my game is still on schedule. And I doubt there'll be any...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
Yeah, that part is a bit greasy for my liking. "You can make money with your creation(s), and have to kick us some when it generates X amount of dollars, but if we like it and use it then you'll get nothing from us. Afterall, we own it. Legally." They should at least offer the creator a 20...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
If Paizo (or anybody else that's currently financially leeching) wants to avoid the 25% kickback to WotC (for twinning their IP), then that's that. But to get on with anything other than that, it's ridiculous. Smart, to try and stir up dust, but some of us can still see If they want to go in the dir...

Re: The OGL, Ravenloft and You
Huh. Quick reads tells me Wizards are casting defensive spells to protect their domain. Years of low percent high profiteering are, potentially, coming to an end. "Thanks for helping with the proliferation of our brand using the tools we supplied you with (wasn't that the whole point?), but if ...
