Re: 3.5 Adept
I never thought about it that way. But that's a good advice. Earning a real player class through a NPC class. But I think you should leave the option to do that also to the live a single person lives. In my opinion the story arc for each individuals determines which class they "earn". So t...

Re: Horror Novels
Raymond Chandlers short story "The king in yellow" is an homage to Chambers great text. Though its not a bit thrilling in a horror sense. Guess it refers just to the structure of Chambers short stories. I guess in a way short stories work very well for horror because you have more freedom ...

Re: 3.5 Adept
I would agree with that. But I would make an exception for the Commoner Class. It's the only one I find in one way plausible to level in. Because it represents a person that never visited a shool (though they aren't illiterate as a barbarian, that's strange) and is never very ambitious. On the other...

Re: 3.5 Adept
I think all NPC classes should be options in a ravenloft campaign. But as statet in the DMG these classes are weaker than actual player classes. So if players want to play such a class I give them bonus feats to balance it. Fe: In my opinion an aristocrat with bonus feats on every 4th level equals a...

Re: Good books ABOUT Gothic literature
Not sure if those exists in english but I guess the name should be easily found in any university library search system if it exists. They are in german. First one specifically about Lovecraft, second about the aesthetics of gothic horror in general: - Rottensteiner, Franz [Hg.]: H.P. Lovecrafts kos...

Re: Horror Novels
Very good authors are: - Guy de Maupassant - Algernon Blackwood (especially: "The man whom trees loved") - Charles R. Maturin - Gustav Meyrink - Leo Perutz (especcially: "Der Meister des jüngsten Tages"; not sure if he is availible in english) - Alexandre Dumas: Horror in Fontena...

Re: Insidious
I liked the movie very much though i have to admit that it didn't play off so well in the end for me. Soundtrack is great and the first 30 or so minutes are really disturbing but then in my opinion the tone changes dramatically and it transforms from really good horror to a kind of lame mystery thri...
