Re: Saving Feast of Goblyns
I feel like the time for a resurgence is long-overdue. There's still a demand for Ravenloft, but the old adventures really don't stand up to modern tabletop standards.

Welcome to Ravenloft
I made a thing just for you. Merry Christmas, Kargateers.
Apologies for potato quality; I have a netbook to work with and this the second video I have created.

Re: What's to be done about the languages problem?
Interesting, Ewan. I really like the 3E book - lots of details about domains, so I'm going with that where there's any clashes. Guns are definitely a thing. I have to agree with Michael that Dementlieu always looked fairly modern, as did Mordent. Emerging guns might be a good thing though, even if t...

Re: What's to be done about the languages problem?
Based on the Ravenloft 2 module I'd say that Mordent is not on Earth, or at least not historical Earth. It's presented as part of an unnamed fantasy world with orcs, elves, halflings, etc in regions beyond Modentshire (orcs are in the module). The local religion is ''the High Faith.'' That's one I ...

Re: What's to be done about the languages problem?
I'll skip the obvious solutions of magic and magic items. Those should be readily apparent. Not my favourite tack. Funnelling all conversation through 10-minute intervals of the party mage being able to speak isn't a barrel of laughs for the other players. Another possibility: Use a languages chart...

Re: Fixing the Cedar Chest
Right - I think I have a workable plan. Ejrik (while in his original body) gets a degenerative disease. He has a limited time to live while going insane. Syphilis, maybe? He marauds around town, de-eye-balling people and slowly killing them. He even takes one as a girlfriend. Some few get away with ...

Re: Fixing the Cedar Chest
The sword is interesting - is that the same Blackrazor as from White Plume Mountain? One of my players in the original set of stories actually *had* that sword, which is fun. In general, it doesn't seem to solve the issues. The character still has long black-outs. That said, it would be nice to have...

Fixing the Cedar Chest
If anyone's familiar with ye olde Book of Crypts then perhaps you'll agree that it's a rather hit-and-miss book. As a newbie GM I had some success with the Cedar Chest, and now I'm running it with new players in a new campaign, all these years later (different rules, et c.). It's a nice story, with ...

Re: What's to be done about the languages problem?
I think that's [Hour of the Knife] the module itself focuses on the story, the murders. It doesn't want to assume that the PCs do or do not know the language, or the emphasis the DM puts on language in their games. I have run games where language didn't play a single part, because I didn't want to ...

Re: What's to be done about the languages problem?
I hear you, one of the problems I had with my campaign was the lack of solid connectivity (physically). For example, I connected Paridon to Richemulot and Dementlieu, but they also speak the language of Mordent (which is just too English not to be based on Middle English). I like the idea of Morden...

What's to be done about the languages problem?
First off - I love that there are different languages, and not the standard 'one language per race'. It's a great touch, makes things isolated, makes things interesting. I'm talking, of course, about the 3rd Ed. core book which lists all the languages and how they relate to each other - I don't reme...

Re: Disney in the Mists
I like the idea. Perhaps if a Darklord dies in a campaign and I don't want the Domain to disappear (and just what is one to do when Adam dies? Send Lamordia to the mists? I think not!), it might be fitting to put the Darklord's soul into a weapon in a stone. Whosoever pulleth out that sword from tha...

Re: Random hooks thread
A priest of Ezra (or whatever the Domain decides) has taken a heavy load of gold from the tombs under the chapel, burried along with various wealthy people in the hopes of bribing the ferry-man into letting them get to Paradise. He stole to feed a gambling habit and then stole some more to pay the m...

Re: Saving Feast of Goblyns
I might need to take a second look at Touch of Death, thought the Egyptian theme was also a little offputting. I'm not a fan of 'you're whisked away by the mists, for module two!'. It feels more organic to let the players roam. Some adventures are set in places, waiting to be triggered. Some call to...
