Re: Races of Dark Fantasy; Shaking up the D&D Paradigms
Here are the available races in the Ravenloft game I'm putting together 1. Changelings - Spawn of humans and Hags doomed to feel a pull towards their inhuman heritage. (Pathfinder changelings, no major changes). 2. Cold Ones - Humans who have died, but for some reason that final trip didn't take. No...

Re: Black Crusade and Malosia
I always thought his AoUD was taking his half of the Grimoire into the city to face Lambert knowing that bringing the two halves so close was going to cause utter chaos to break out. However all that mattered was his grudge with Lambert. The callousness, the disregard for the suffering of people, an...

Re: Van Richten's guide to Eldritch horror.
Look at Lovecraft's own writing...
Cosmic horror is still gothic and the next best thing to magic when you don't understand it. When it's all spelled out that's when it becomes science fiction. So cosmic horror jives perfectly with Ravenloft just don't go out of your way to explain it to the players.

Same. Dier Kaiserreich is my definitive Falkovnia.Mistmaster wrote:Dier Kaiserreich is my canon Falkovnia, expecially about Drakov; I also love all your takes of canon domains, bigger and more nuanced.

Re: The Best of Quoth of The Raven and Kargatane Netbooks
Then there are the articles that are so good, they might as well be canon, for me: The Red Wolf (BoS 4) I'm blushing. Not bad for something I wrote nearly 20 years ago when I was 18 and stupid. Also, no one at the Kargatane told me that my article was going to tie into the framing fiction so when t...

The 13 Demons of Ravenloft
So, I'm toying with a campaign idea based loosely on some old Aleister Crowley lore. He once attempted to summon his guardian angel through an extensive magical ritual that was supposed to last for months and also summon the twelve kings of hell. I've got a similar idea of evil outsiders being summo...

Re: Shadowborn family curse
*Hears Shadbowborn, swings in on a rope* I've always felt the "curse" was Ebonbane exerting influence to draw in anything that Kateri Shadowborn may have cared about in life and corrupting it while her ghost watched helplessly from inside Shadowborn Manor. Of course he went and got absorbe...

Re: The Time of Unparalleled Darkness - preterism
My current Ravenloft campaign operates under the assumption that the ToUD has come and gone. The Dark Powers merely piece the experiment back together after it inevitably falls apart for one reason or another. The original Castle Ravenloft / House on Gryphon hill was the first. Classic AD&D Rave...

Re: Alternative Vistani Interpretations?
I'm new to these boards, and I just found this topic, so I figured I'd quit lurking for once! I disliked the Romani stereotype too, and so I changed the "nomadic plot device race" to astrologically-oriented centaurs instead, I think that my players found that much more interesting than th...

Re: Werebeast pc?
I had an afflicted werewolf pc in my last campaign. Mechanically it was broken, but it worked well for the story (for the record a Pathfinder werebeast is easier to balance than a 3.x one). Being infected was part of a larger downward spiral for the character however. The first time he changed he mu...

I remember watching the Peter Pan arc from Once Upon a Time with my wife. She declared Peter's shadow the scariest thing ever and pointed out that he was pretty much the Dark Lord of Neverland.

Re: Ravenloft inspiring movies
My Favorite "Ravenloft" films are ... Sleepy Hollow: Thematically it's a great adventure set in rural Mordent. The Supernatural terror is impossible to defeat in proper combat, and the only way the heroes triumph is through investigation and finding who's really pulling the strings (and ha...

- What is the part of Being a DM that you enjoy the most? Creating complicated story frameworks, filling them with interesting characters and watching how the players interact with the inside of my brain. - What is the most annoying thing you find when you DM? Having players who aren't committed to...

Re: So... How would you feel about Lamordia reimagined...?
Thanks for the reply. I've perused QtR22 in the article you mentioned, and the first thing I noted is how vastly more populated this slant on Lamordia is - Neufurchtenberg is over 60,000 people, more than 60 times the population of 3.x Ludendorf... This is a true re-imagining but maybe a little too...

Also I assumed she did eat the children's hearts I always kind of assumed for the curse to work there'd always be more for Moosha to ignore.
