Re: Curse of Strahd: Opinions?

I'm now through most of the book but the last side locale and the lvl1-3 intro adventure and am very pleasantly surprised. There is a surprising amount of Ravenloft material like Vallaki, Lake Zarovich or Van Richten. While the latter might be a paradox with the timeline as others have noted, CoS st...

Re: Curse of Strahd: Opinions?

Got mine today, but couldn't do more than to paw a bit through it yet. I've seen some nice bits (like all the souls being trapped in the domain rather than to be allowed to pass to the afterlife, with nasty consequences for resurrection magic), but also some bits that made me scratch my head (such a...

Re: DM - Help with reactions to strange PCs

It depends a lot on the area, the race, the means of the population and the effort the character takes to hide his features. An orc who covers all the skin but the eyes, stays away from the light and limits human contact to the minimum for business might pass well enough (although people will still ...

Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition

I'm not too thrilled about a reboot that mangles the source material to forcefully inject 'diversity' and 'progressiveness', either. I don't mind it where it makes sense without a second thought (like most sci-fi and cyberpunk worlds), and I can live with it when it is properly rationalized within t...

Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition

This will probably just be like "Expedition to Castle Ravenloft": A heavily extended and altered rehash of I6 in an isolated Barovia independent of the Ravenloft setting, and a lot of deviations from it (like the zombie plague or the halfling vistani).

Re: [Savage Worlds] Ravenloft

There is already a downloadable Tarrokah set at the very FoS, illustrated by Isabella: http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/Mausoleum/tarokka_tarot.pdf Should do the job if printed on sturdy paper and laminated, and would probably worth a mention and link in the PDF. (Although I'd probably convert it ...

Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition

Ha Ha! Time For Happening!

I wouldn't get too excited too early, though. It could end up like "Expedition to Castle Ravenloft" which was only very, very loosely tied to the Ravenloft campaign setting.

Re: Ravenloft in American Politics

I don't want to tread the highly inflammatory area of characterising candidates, but this thread reminded me of this political cartoon depicting Trump as Van Richten expy:

Re: Darkonian Curse

While this isn't how the Darkonian Curse works normally, the false memories are physically written down and could be manipulated. It could happen that Azalin sees fit to overwrite the default memories under special circumstances. Or you could go with the Madness effekt mentioned aboved, or change th...

Re: Mordenheim Bloodline issue

I just want to point out that there was a similar idea used in Hammer's The Curse of Frankenstein , turning the maid Justine into a mistress impregnated by Frankenstein, who ultimately got her killed by the creature to protect the secret. You could work that in if you want something more personal th...

Re: Awarding xp, when exactly?

I am with Ender on the order of things by RAW: Remove the level for Raise Dead first, then apply the XP of the encounter afterwards. Gaining XP from encounters is independent from actually slaying the foe. What matters is that the encounter is solved – whether it is by knocking the foe unconscious, ...

Re: Awarding xp, when exactly?

Which edition is this for? 3.0, 3.5, 4e, 5e or any of the many d20 variants (Modern, Conan etc.)? The RAW answer may differ depending on that.

Re: [Savage Worlds] Ravenloft

Meh. The Vistani are as exaggerated and represent historical or current Yenish (Sinti, Roma…) as little, as the goose-stepping warmongering Falkovnians are a representation of historical or current Germans. It’s not like Ravenloft has ever been shy of cliché and flanderization with any of its real-w...

[3.x] Fixing RL prestige classes with Gestalt rules

It is probably widely recognized that the prestige classes in Ravenloft are extremely weak, and often a straight downgrade from the base class (such as the Hallowed Witch which only gains Casterlevel and rarely useable class features, but loses the main attraction of any spellcaster class, actual ne...

Re: [Savage Worlds] Ravenloft

An admirable goal to be sure, though I have to admit that, personally, I think I prefer the way it was done in 4e. Rather than de-mystify them, they de-Roma-fied them. Maybe I'm a curmudgeon, but I like the concept of a mysterious group of wanderers with powers no one else has. (Full Disclosure: I'...
