Regarding Van Richten's Guide to the Mists

OK, so I'm a few sessions into my latest RL Campaign and reviewing my material. Amongst this is Van Richten's Guide to the Mists. Now, the general opinion I get is that this book was not well received as it gave the Mists a rather definable quality and basically made them "too concrete." M...

Re: Dumb question

This weirdness goes back to 2nd edition AD&D. In 2nd Edition, Ezra Clerics could wear metal armor only. In 3rd edition, this got a bit more vague because technically Clerics were proficient in all forms of armor. However, some prestige classes related to the Church of Ezra limit the cleric to we...

Valhalla Rising

I saw this trailer and immediately thought of Ravenloft. This looks amazing.

Re: Influences and Inspirations

Personally, I'm a big fan of the classics. In the past year I've read Moby Dick, Dracula, Withering Heights, and The Invisible Man . All of these are good foils for the Domains of Dread. Dracula and Withering Heights being obvious, but Moby Dick gives an absolutely riveting story of one man's descen...

Re: Sunset Gultch: A Pocket Domain

I decided to go with the name "Forgotten Hope". The domain itself was created when a fire n brimstone preacher lead a group of pilgrims into the desert and after they began to speak out against him he left the woman he was having an affair to die in the desert when she grew ill, then shot ...

Re: Sunset Gultch: A Pocket Domain

So, after some work on this domain, I'm finding that the name Sunset Gulch just doesn't quite fit as development continues. The domain itself was founded by Religious Missionaries loosely based on early Mormon settlers. The dark lord (at this stage of design) is a Fire n' Brimstone preacher. I'm als...

True, but D'honnaire has got the fly clothes. He'd totally rock a purple leopard print fedora.

Re: Influences and Inspirations

Video games: Lula: The Sexy Empire - You're a pimp and your goal is to make your girlfriend/prostitute Lula into an international porn star. This is actually a really bad game and I couldn't recommend it to anybody, regardless of whether they're searching for a Gothic horror game. I have never play...

Artists Wanted

After years of work and procrastination, I am nearing completion on Van Richten's Footnotes: Volume I . This is going to be a 50 or so page pdf, formated like a Ravenloft 3.x book with new rules, optional rules and other goodies. However, I am woefully lacking in art. I was wondering if anyone was i...

Looking for an old Ravenloft/Gothic setting article

My wife and I are both nosing around the web for an article we both remember seeing on the 'net. We both believe it was on a Ravenloft site - but cannot be certain. The article was about the Ten Tenets of Gothic Literature (or it may have been Gothic Settings, or Themes, we can't quite recall) Can a...

I really love this book. It was written by James Wyatt, and he's the cat's pajamas. I feel like it was his way of going "Since I'm not writing Ravenloft anymore, here's the closest I can get away with, since I love it so much."

Re: MARKET PLACE: Ravenloft's interesting auctions and links

I've got every book that was done for the 3.0/3.5 Ravenloft run, including the Tarokka Deck. Can anyone give me a ball park idea what a reasonable price is? If almost $70 is a "steal", I can't imagine what an average price would be.

Ravenloft & Heroes of Horror: Taint vs. Powers Checks

So, as I'm preparing for my latest RL campaign "Plague of Fear", I'm going through my source books and came upon a forgotten gem: Heroes of Horror. Written by James Wyatt, this book has clear use in Ravenloft and I was looking at the rules for Taint. I like them, but prefer the RL 3.5 rule...
