Re: New takes on prestige classes

THE AVENGER This one I just finished. The statline is basically the same. It's a ten level prestige class with the good Will and Fort saves, the best BAB, and as I'm using the Defense in place of Armor Class variant rules, I gave him the second best Base Defense Bonus progression. For now I'm keepin...

New takes on prestige classes

Right now I'm in the middle of (hopefully really close to the end of) a mammoth project of putting together a definitive rulebook to have available for the campaign I'm starting up in a few weeks. One thing I always regretted in previous campaigns is players not having access to all the available op...

Re: Alchemical Philosopher/Scientist and low treasure campai

You could have some mercy on them by including "alchemical/scientific ingredients" in the loot. Rather than give them 1000 gp they can use for anything they want, say they loot the bad guy's laboratory and find 1000 gp-value worth of miscellaneous ingredients, which is effectively like a ...

Alchemical Philosopher/Scientist and low treasure campaigns

Going through and modifying all of the prestige classes - trying to balance them and get them to where they're all a little better than a default class but still more specialized/situational (in other words, Fighter is still going to be best for all around melee combat but even if he spammed his fea...

Re: Tumbledown and the secret treasure of the Gauldamons

So I ran an adventure involving Tumbledown, the Gauldamon family (sorta) & Lou'Gal about 12 yrs ago or so. Here is the background to the adventure that I wrote (maybe it will help you with some idea development). Lots of good stuff in there - thanks! What kind of demon did you end up making Lou...

Tumbledown and the secret treasure of the Gauldamons

Trying to come up with ideas for a couple scenarios in Mordent. Was rereading sections of Gaz3 and curious whether anyone out there has further explored the idea of what the secret treasure of the Gauldamon family might be that the secret council of Tumblrdown’s businessmen are interested in, or if ...

Re: Ravenloft is back in 5e?

In case people missed it, no more Core. Only islands in the mists ("In this new interpretation, every domain is a lonely island drifting through the mists."). Seems like an odd choice for a campaign setting. Now I'm even more curious what it's going to look like. I figured if they were go...

Re: Is it worth switching to 5e?

Thank you for such an in depth response - it really helps and I'm leaning toward making the 5e change now and just waiting to see what the new book is like before I decide. I didn't realize they had those two things up for free on their site. That's really cool. I'll definitely check those out. Deat...

Re: Ravenloft is back in 5e?

I'm cautiously optimistic, and am hoping that even if I absolutely hate what they've done with the setting there's some good rules and game mechanics in there, and at the very least it will get people interested in the setting enough that old school DM's can say "here, try this out" and ru...

Is it worth switching to 5e?

Hi all. Been a long time since I've posted but since there's Ravenloft news again I'm back to thinking about it. I've been hooked on Ravenloft ever since the black box set and bought all of the 2e, 3e and 3.5 products, and stopped at 3.5 as that's the last time the campaign setting as a whole was su...

Ravenloft coins

I really liked the different coins that were introduced in the 3rd edition books for the various domains and was thinking for my next campaign of having some custom coins made and give one to each of my players every time they visit a new part of the world. Was wondering if anyone knew of material t...

Has anyone ever used the skin thief?

The skin thief is one of those monsters I never really gave a second glance to in all the years I've been doing Ravenloft, but I was looking through the book the other day and actually got a story idea. What I'm trying to figure out now is how to present him. How to explain this eight fingered man b...
