Re: Cyre 1313 The Mourning Rail domain

The Black Dice Society did a special patreon episode on the Mourning Rail. It even added the idea that the train wasn't exactly peaceful and normal before it was taken by the Mists. They made the train fairly short (as it was a one shot) and did something like Snowpiercer in it's set up, with variou...

Re: My 5e Fluff Update to the Nightmare Lands

The Nightmare Lands is one of my favourite domains, and I liked the new seed they planted by adding Caroline at the center of it.

Fantastic job expanding on it!

Re: VRGtR: Call-backs and other Continuity Nods

- You can find Waterford from John Mangrum's adventure The Man Who Lost His Mind on the map of Mordent. (Seriously, there are Book of S_ references!)
- The Whistling Fiend illustration is carrying the Key to the Abyss heart.

Re: 5e announced!

Yes, I like those humanoids, no problem with those. However, I would like if say, the giants weren't different-size bag of hit points with an added resistance to cold or fire for some. Many of the monsters seem very "bare-bones" to me compared with 4th edition where 90% of monsters had 1-...

Re: 5e announced!

I don't know... the lair and legendary abilities are pretty awesome. There are no real new "leap out and shock you" abilities, but that's because the book is converting some of the biggest staples of the game. They aren't rewriting them entirely, but they are bringing in new mechanical cha...

Re: rule questions about 5e

I think that the knight is both a combination of presence and giving orders, which would explain granting the bonus to every ally they can see, but yeah it's pretty silly. Of course, this is a game where it isn't uncommon to recite entire novellas in six seconds. ;) As I said, I'd go with making it ...

Re: rule questions about 5e

The basic rules have the ability as: For 1 minute, the knight can utter a special command or warning whenever a nonhostile creature that it can see within 30 feet of it makes an attack roll or a saving throw. The creature can add a d4 to its roll provided it can hear and understand the knight. A cr...

5e Shadow Dragons and Ebb

I've been flipping through the fifth edition monster manual and came across their entry on Shadow Dragons. I'm not sure if Shadow Dragons were a unique race in 4e like they had been in earlier editions but they're different in the latest edition. Instead of being a specific type of dragon like Golds...

Re: Excited for 5E

I have to agree. I've basically been ignoring the playtest and build up to 5e out of lack of real interest. It was a big surprise to pick up the book and see a quick, easy and adaptable system. I'm really excited to get a campaign started, though it probably won't be for quite some time. I'm finishi...

Re: 2E balance help

Are the other players aware that they're going to provide a body count so it will be more dramatic when a specific, pre-chosen character makes it to the end? Would they be OK with that? Because I could imagine it would get kind of annoying to players who have died and are now sitting on the side wit...

Re: Golem Theory 101

I don't see any reason why you couldn't make 6 golems out of 6 bodies. Strictly speaking at least. I could see a scenario where six dread golems made from the same six people are driven to attack one another. The golem that wins incorporates the loser to himself in its entirety as the bodies all try...

Re: Overland travel in the Near Ethereal

I think the main problem of that form of travel would be running into Ethereal Resonance and Sinkholes of Evil that result from them. It might even be harder to avoid walking through these areas since they have more presence in the Near Ethereal than the average place. You may be able to avoid a bog...

Re: Ravenlofting the Sha'ir

Not a problem, I wasn't very clear. Part of what I'm trying to do is avoid abilities that cause issue with the rules of Ravenloft such as the ability to travel to planes other than the Border Ethereal, have very limited use in the Core like recognizing the work of genies, or cause serious problems i...
