Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them

I should point out that I’m being hyperbolic when I say “stunning and brave”. It’s a phrase from South Park.

What they’re actually doing is saying “this is the best D&D book ever [and that’s not my hyperbole] and this is the way D&D should go forward with inclusion.”

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them

I guess my point is that if they cared at all about making a product that better appealed to long-time Ravenloft fans, they certainly know where/how to find us. certainly, but I don't think that was their goal. Let's face it, the book wasn't written for us and it is understandable, we already have ...

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them

In just over a week, people here have shown more creativity with new domains than the writers have in, I would hazard a guess at least 6 months of writing. Drinnik, many of us here, do that for over 20 years . Unless I remember wrong, you're in the 20+ years in the net group too. All the way back f...

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them

It completely misses the point to say “use x monster stats” because Darklords were never just “x monster” and that was because the had done something so heinous as to become a darklord, that their darklord powers elevated them above the normal ranks of their kind. Agreed, but if you look at Strahd ...

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them

Making a character potentially lust after their niece is certainly a choice. One which is especially odd in this book as they've tried to remove everything they deem problematic, but incest is OK? Lyssa is Sturm's (Strahd's older brother) granddaughter so it is Strahd's grandniece, though still inc...

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them

Ahh... Lysa Von Zarovich. A Vampire (with generic uberpowerful vampire stats of course, but more ranting on that subject can be found in the previous post). But Tatyana's Reincarnation ? I can't say that I like it. It is of course just an alternative but it gives the wrong vibe IMO. Tatayana should...

Re: Jester's Review of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft

The responses to this book have been muted. When Tasha’s came out during the “orcs are racist” debacle, you couldn’t move for discussions on Facebook or forums. With this, Facebook is dead, only Polygon, one of the worst websites out there, has had an article. It feels like people who would normally...

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them

Calling him the Caller is stupid because a Gentleman Caller is an actual thing. It was what a man who visitors a lady’s boudoir in the middle of the night was known as. And being a sex demon, it made sense, was logical and added both flavour and mystery to the setting. Which is of course why the new...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof

What bothers me is that everything is referred in comparison with CoS while ignoring that Vistani were more diversed in previous editions. VRGttV will be ignored because it solves the problem they’re having now 20 years ago, and to acknowledge that would take away the opportunity for them to virtue...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof

There’s a post on Reddit saying that they’ve used fab stuff from this site in the book. They only mention place names in Mordent, but even then don’t they have to ask permission to use stuff by other people?

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof

It's not Alanik's fall, injury, or him being bound to a wheelchair that rubs me the wrong way. It's his choice to remain in the wheelchair. It's illogical, given that Wizard's standard (print) version of Dungeons and Dragons has plenty of ways to heal such an injury. So, assuming they continue with...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof

That is an awful picture of Jacqueline. She only ever wears black, and Louise is drawn to colour. It’s a plot point in Scholar of Decay when Louise convinces her to wear a different colour dress to the final ball of the season to fulfil her plan.
