Re: Review thread of VRGtRL 5e
direheroics, that was well argued, thought-provoking review, and it got me to see some things in a new light. Thanks for sharing.

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
It occurs to me to ask, What about the seas? Since they also qualify as domains, how does the new publication address them? The Sea of Sorrows gets a short description in the book. It can briefly attach itself to any domain that has a coastline (Darkon, Dementlieu, Kalakeri, Lamordia, Mordent, Vala...

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them
Regarding Falkovnian farmlands, the domain suffers a massive zombie attack every month, which Vladesca has so far been successful at stopping every time, but she had to tighten her defences around Lekar and give up on everything else. In-between the monthly invasions, the Talons are forcing civilian...

Re: [VRGtR]: Alhoon's ramblings and discussions of them
I don't think anyone cultivates the earth outside Lekar. To be fair, the book says that they do (in the Lekar section), but your larger point still stands. Personally, I plan to take the "eerie vessels from mysterious lands" that are mentioned in the description of Martira Bay, and have t...

Re: Jester's Review of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft
You may be right. My observations are based on the online articles, reddit, this board, and some twitter. Mostly it's the topic of Ezmeralda and changes to her character that keeps popping up again and again. I guess many Curse of Strahd veterans really like her.

Re: Jester's Review of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft
I think WotC understands that it's pointless to pander to one's detractors, or to try to silence one's critics. The best way to fight a bad narrative about your company is to create a counter-narrative. That's what they're trying to do. And it's working. You can easily find dozens of questionable de...

Re: Jester's Review of Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft
I think the responses have been muted because WotC's regular D&D audience genuinely doesn't know what to make of this weird book. People who were expecting new material to enhance their upcoming/ongoing Curse of Strahd games are discovering that it has none of that. People who got excited about ...

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
Then isn't it the "old Ravenloft spirit" inspired by real world characters and pop culture*? For instance for Barovians (who are based on movie pop culture interpretations of Transylvanians) it is written in older books that they will under no circumstance go out after sunset, that they a...

Re: Ask me anything about VRGTR! (Spoilers)
There's a passing mention of a "tower like a blackened rose" within the domain of Klorr, which is an apocalyptic realm where darklord-less domains go to die.Any mention of Soth/Sithicus/Azrael/Inza in any shape or form?

Re: Ask me anything about VRGTR! (Spoilers)
The book avoids doing it, sometimes deliberately pushing the lore in a different direction. For example, Keening's infamous City of the Dead, dubbed Marbh-Cathair in 3E, is named Anwrtyn here.Gonzoron of the FoS wrote:Any signs of anything exclusive to the 3e/Arthaus-era that got used?

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
After finally getting a better look at the domain maps, I can't help but notice many evocative-sounding place names that aren't described in the text. I get the feeling that someone had to edit down the domain descriptions with a hatchet to meet the required page count. It feels as if whole pages of...

Re: Strix and the Nightmare Lands
Do you mean Styrix the night hag living in Martira Bay, or Strix the character from Dice, Camera, Action?
