While I was deployed to Iraq (Baghdad '03) There was a beautiful lake by the airport. One day someone found a body floating in it, which prompted us to drain it. The draining revealed several dozen more bodies along with a weapons cache at the very bottom.

I agree with the alignment thing, but Ravenloft already compensates for this by removing an absolute good and evil so characters have to navigate their morals by their gut.
