It is my understanding that the only way a Crimson Mist can be created is by the willing suicide of a vampire, hence Jander's hesitation. He would rather exist as an abomination with free will than as a creature whose only driving purpose was to kill. I always thought it would be interesting if the ...

This was a place that toyed with your mind and sanity, slowly killing you with fear and horrid monster attacks--all of them undead.
Actually that sounds exactly like Ravenloft. Exactly.

Lyssa Von Zarovich, an alternate history. [Please Review]

As a note to any of my players that might still read this board, please do not read the following material. Vipera Aspis, this means you. In my budding RL campaign set in Barovia, circa 751BC, I've decided to use Lyssa Von Zarovich as a major villain. As a result, I felt it appropriate to alter her ...

I would suggest the Corruption/Depravity system of Taint, outlined in Heroes of Horror by WotC. I will be using it in my upcoming RL game, hopefully to great effect.

If you're looking for more supplemental material, I would strongly suggest Heroes of Horror and Book of Vile Darkness. They're both in 3.5 so no annoying conversions and they have both rules for some pretty wicked spells and items, as well as notes and ideas for purely roleplaying theme and mood. Go...

I've been playing a Druid for about three years now (just got back to 9th level after being level drained) and one of the resources I found useful were the Gazetteers sections on local Flora. Most of the plants mentioned produce powerful results when properly harvested and applied. Besides that, I b...

That's rediculous Nikolai. You don't have a working model of the Argus Eyes, which would let you see through the thick mist. Besides that, why would you ever be able to sneak up on undead at night in the fog? Almost always the situation is the reverse.

One way to deal with it is, as described before, to simply change the way the effects or abilities look. I'm unfamiliar with the majority of the domain of Paridon but from what you've said it sounds like those guys might act a lot like the Keepers from the Thief series of games. The way that whole c...

One of our characters, the illustrious archivist Mensick Kalkhov, has "inherited" a museum in Dementlieu. For multiple reasons we are, for intents and purposes, going on a tour of the major domains of the Core and along the way, whenever encountering anything particularly strange, Mensick ...

Isn't that only with Half-Vistani?
I believe it's a Vistani trait that's inherited by any half-vistani.

Something our RL party found particularly useful was getting the Church of the Morninglord to make us holy oil. They were the only ones we could ask to make something like that, everywhere else we'd probably have gotten weird looks. When lit, it does 1d6 fire and 1d6 holy a round for three rounds. G...

In addition to one of the best gifts I could have asked for, a well DMed Ravenloft game, Vipera also graced me with a first edition copy of "I, Strahd". He is full of awesome.

Guardian of Hell

In a campaign setting where only the Nine Hells exist, what horrible creature would guarde the gateway? Something that will both keep out unwanted corporeal travellers as well as allow the passage of souls into the plane. I liked the idea of Cerberus, who guards the entrance to Hades. However I was ...
