a lot of the balance issues comes from our perception as to what is considered "balanced" and what is considered "playable". hell, I'm pretty sure when we see the word balance, we all have different definitions in mind which probably results in different implementation. Yes! It ...

Because "spells for fighters" (i.e. stances and maneuvers) was mentioned as being mainstreamed into the rules, I just had a look at Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords today and hated it. I have no love for ToB:Bo9S either, but it's important to note that the system there isn't repres...

Oh, and big whoop that D&D is borrowing from Video Games. . . . Would you really not want them to use a brilliant, amazing concept and apply it to the game because it originated in a video game? Actually, to a point, yes. Just as books are different from movies, video games are different from p...

Although I've never been there, it seems to me that the best stuff would be in the out of the way places. The heyday of Vegas was the 50s & 60s and so the interesting stuff would be the roadside restaurants and casinos that haven't been updated since then.

I don't mind a new D&D edition per se, but I hope it won't be even more videogamesque. What's that obsession with speading the game? In a few editions, it will be a "OK, in the cave stands a menacing troll, and ( one dice is rolled) zapp, the battle is finished." Also, that tabletop-o...

FUMBLEEEEE!!!!
Hmmm. . . I suppose this could be useful for some types of players and GMs but I probably wouldn't use it. Still, it looks like an interesting product.

Add me to the list of "Depends on who writes it" people. The team that did Heroes of Horror did a great job . It's one of my favorite non-RL D&D3e books (along with FFG's Darkness & Dread ). -- Edit: Moved comment regarding 4e rules development to the Yep, 4th Edition is coming out...

Considering the price tag is $11 and Paizo's own web-page said 'super-sized issue,' I was pissed to find a standard page count issue on the newsstand. So, I haven't bought the issue yet and, unless the issue is advert-free, I'm not sure if I will.

If you have access to photshop you can produce some decent attempts at old parchment graphics which you then print et voila! Check this link for a simple walkthrough: link Unfortunately, that's only step one of the process if you want to make prop-quality handouts. A print out looks like a print ou...

I think that players knowing what the setting is all about DOES make them more interested in the world, though you of course have to keep some secrets, as with any game. Absolutely! One of the things I do before starting a new Ravenloft game is "make" players read Vampire of The Mists . I...

Re: Dragon 359

Dragon 359 has some Ravenloft material. Strahd is among the Top 20 Villains, Ezra in Forgotten Faiths. Does anbody have this already? I'd like to hear more esp about the second article... I've been looking for it. Has it hit the newsstands yet ? From what I gather from the link you posted, the subs...

Supporting a system that will require conversion only adds more work for a DM AND the FoS netbook editors. Since the most popular RL stuff is 3e, and what DMs and players will reference, stick with 3e until an official 4e Ravenloft appears. In my opinion, conversion to a new game system shouldn't be...

You can also transfer photocopies on to all sorts of materials. You can, for example, take a good fresh dark photocopy and transfer it to aluminum foil with a simple clothes-iron. Simply place the photocopy face down and iron it on to the foil at high heat. Also, you can take a mirror-image print ou...

Anyway, this helps to explain the cancelled licenses of Dragon and Dungeon, Dragonlance, etc... This is a very important point. If a company wants to license dead game worlds from WOTC in the future, they'll be required to publish them under 4e rules in an attempt to move the game world's fans to t...
