The Shadowlands and a new, unexplored domain are both great ideas.
I was also playing around with an idea of exploring the Burning Peaks cluster after Vecna has vanished. It seems like that place would be suitably dangerous and chaotic... although gothic horror would certainly be lacking.

Procedural Hex Crawl in Ravenloft
My players recently finished adventuring through AD&D 2nd Edition's House of Strahd. They had a great time and want to explore the setting more... but with Fifth Edition instead. Now, I've also been working on rules for a procedural hex crawl for D&D 5th Edition - essentially the adventurers...

Re: Curse of Strahd: Opinions?
Curse of Strahd is pretty flippin great. I'm glad they at least make reference to the Ravenloft setting we love and cherry pick cool ideas to expand the I6 adventure - something WotC couldn't be bothered to do with the dreadful Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. I'm also glad there's enough changes to ...

Re: Souvenirs of I6/HouseofStrahd/EtCR?
But even if it was nearly a TPK, it was great! We loved it! Oh my gosh, that was a horrific encounter for my group. The party had split to cover more ground in the catacombs and both the fighters stepped into traps on opposite sides of Strahd's tomb. The remainder of the party got to face wights in...

Has the Iron Sanctum (The sanctuary belonging to the Order of the Guardians) been illustrated, mapped, or detailedly described anywhere?

Re: Midway Haven Observatory presents: MUBONYETE & HIVA MORU
To be fair, that's probably true mostly for Ravenloft, not all of TSR's worlds. For instance, there was: -Al Quadim -Kara Tur/Oriental Adventures -Maztica Many of the Dark Sun cities were inspired by Non-European civilizations (eg. Balic/Ancient Greece, Draj/Aztecs, Gulg/Africa, Nibenay/China, etc....

Re: Midway Haven Observatory presents: MUBONYETE & HIVA MORU
Indeed, TSR's lack of interest in non-Western European fantasy was always shameful. I'm very interested to see some cool and atypical new additions to the Ravenloft demiplane.NeoTiamat wrote:Oooooh. African Domains! I am intrigued.

Re: Quick Survey for DMs (any edition)
You sure about that? Monsters aside, it has one of the less practical layouts for any residents that may be there (unless Strahd has done MAJOR reconstruction on it since 351 BC). My players tend to fall into the 'I see it, I want it' mentality without any concern with who or what lives inside. The...

Re: Quick Survey for DMs (any edition)
I'm pretty sure my players want Castle Ravenloft after they kill Strahd... which will probably cause a succession crisis/civil war in Barovia.

I'll second that praise!
And I think you're in luck, GreenWood, since new QuothTheRaven issues usually show up in October...

Re: Headless Horseman Good or bad adventure choice?
Well, the Horseman is already in the "prelude" of From the Shadows. Perhaps you could replace that scene with a longer scenario in the Winding Road?
EDIT: I definitely misread this. If you're looking for inspiration, there's a Headless Horseman short story in Tales of Ravenloft.

Re: Books to be read
You can't go wrong reading them in the release order, but luckily most of the novels are actually fairly setting agnostic. Most take place in a particular domain with little interaction with other countries or impact from the Ravenloft metaplot.

Barovian/von Zarovich Heraldry
So for next session my PCs have gathered a levy from the village of Barovia and are going to siege Castle Ravenloft using the old Battlesystem. Because I like my miniatures to be accurate to the setting, what are the colors and/or heraldry of Barovia or the von Zarovich family?

Re: State Church of Barovia
Cool, thanks for the info everyone! Are you running I6 or House of Strahd? I've never seen the 2E version. Does it include any references to the Demiplane of Dread, other domains, etc? House of Strahd takes place in the domain of Barovia in the mid-5th century Barovian Calendar. The adventure is upd...
