Re: The Snout: amazing short story
You are correct Mikhal, the old Ones are not "elemental" in the terms of the four classical elements, which is as you said a less than popular concoction of Derleth. I meant it more as a force of nature. Also, the story does have a long build up, and a short pay off, but it does have a fai...

The Snout: amazing short story
Hi everyone, I just recently finished reading a fantastically creepy short story called The Snout http://www.donaldcorrell.com/road/white/lukundo.html#c4 I learned about this tale from the guys at HPPodcraft.com, the worlds foremost podcast about H.P. Lovecraft. While it is not explicitly supernatur...

Re: Just noticed this - G'Henna = Pre-1959 Tibet
All this talk about the iron curtain has got me thinking: What does the average G'hennan know about the outside world? Are they told that everywhere else in the mists is a barren desert of death, and that Zhakata has preserved their land alone? Might they be told that all outsiders eat unclean foods...

Re: Dreadpass encounters?
What do you think happens to the vampires that Strahd and his minions create, but who are disobedient? My thought: Strahd uses foulest necromancy and binds them to some dark, forgotten corner of the land. Those who would not serve as minions become little more than guard dogs, chained in place. Thus...

Quoth the Raven: Volume 20 Now Open
As the winter snows retreat into the boggy earth, a dark stain is revealed. The ill omens spread and soon there is no denying the foul taint that clings to every sunset. From the forgotten corners of man's domain, evil takes wing once more, spreading chaos and bedlam wherever its shadow falls. The F...

Re: Falkovnia solo help.
Hi Epically, Congratulations regarding the new player-to-be. Given that this is a solo adventure in such a hostile place as Falkovnia, you might want to try something against type. Perhaps something more noir mystery? The player wakes up covered in blood – which is fairly common, since he or she is ...

The one thing without which no one can truly feel damned: Hope!Buzzclaw wrote:What seems to be missing?
Darklords always need success to be hanging just outside their grasp.
I like the visions idea. Its just the thing to keep your Czar hoping, committing evil, and failing again and again and again.

Re: Creating a "backwards" domain...does this sound coherent
Hi Buzzclaw, I love the write up. It follows history pretty well, and builds up a great visual. I especially like the theme of sacrificing humanity on the alter of technology / modernism. I only wonder if the domain is a too much in opposition to the darklord, rather than being self-defeating fantas...

Re: Top 5 Favorite Domains
1 - Arkandale : Maybe it's just me, but the Deep South feel of this domain is charming enough to be scary. Its all picturesque and charming until you hear it.... the sound of... a banjo! I prefer the domains that are the most close to the early modern age, where a DM would have the most freedom to ...

Re: D&D Movie III: the Book of Vile Darkness
The second movie was fantastic if only for three reasons:
1) we finally prove that a straight up cleric of a nature god is usless
2) Someone finally checks for traps
3) The bird (you know what I mean)

Re: Remembrance day
I'm glad you like it, Alhoon. I got to admit, its a pretty rough work. For casting time, it is unchanged from normal 3rd edition D&D magic spells. I felt the same way about magic in Red Death - it was a good idea to make magic hard to use, but impractical to cast any kind of spell in anything re...

Quoth the Raven Issue 19: Other Articles
Hi All, With so much emphasis on Blaustein, and with Dave’s Paka article on its own thread, I thought we should have a thread for the other articles from Quoth the Raven 19. The Friend: This was an interesting take on possession. The introductory text gave it some much needed creepiness. Cute Enough...

Re: I'M GONNA WRECK IT!!! SPOILERS: WRECK IT RALPH!!!
Turbo-tastic! I saw the movie and loved it. I'm an old school videogamer from the Atari age so when I heard that it was based on old games I was pretty psyched to see it. There was a lot of love for the old games. I especially loved how the characters from the 8-bit games were animated. The jerky mo...
