The visage can be found in Libris Mortis for 3.5. The Fiend Folio also has the blood fiend, which is to demons what a vampire is to mortals. The Lesser Evil wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 10:15 am Planescape introduced the visage, a type of undead fiend specifically created by Orcus:

Re: QtR 30 is open for submissions!
I am excited to read this monster!
I am also a little terrified of how much proofreading we have to do over the next month.
I just finished and snuck in a short (8 page) entry of my own.

A toxic pond would also be a good place to put the aquatic oozes called reekmurks from the Fiend Folio (page 18). They tend to reside in the ocean depths and in underground lakes, and they don't tolerate sunlight, but they seem thematically appropriate.

Re: Curing Vampirism
I also think that vampires turning to "ash" could also be them turning to dust, as their corpse is suddenly subject to all the time that has passed since the vampire's first "death." So, if a vampire is really old, they could turn to dust; if they're a younger vampire, you'd jus...

Re: Curing Vampirism
In baseline 3.5, it isn't especially clear what happens to a vampire's body after it is destroyed. I presume staking does not turn it to ash, as the SRD says, "...it returns to life if the stake is removed, unless the body is destroyed." I would consider reduction to ash to be a form of de...

Re: Curing Vampirism
What I'm wondering is if the fraternity may have come across some methods of curing vampirism, even if it is a small window or some game mechanic that can be undertaken. By base 3.5 rules, destroying an undead creature and casting at least a resurrection spell would return the former undead to its ...

Re: Carrier Pigeons in the Mists
Last but not least: Homing pigeons are second to 'Sending' spell. Sending can go anywhere and won't be intercepted. Homing pigeons are not needed in places with a reliable number of clerics or mages. Most domains of Ravenloft have clerics that can serve those rich enough to send pigeons. Not all th...

Re: Which edition to buy for fluff?
I just did a quick search. DriveThruRPG and DMsGuild have only the Core Rulebook, PHB, Champions of Darkess, Denizens of Darkness, Secrets of the Dread Realms , and Expedition to Castle Ravenloft (which wasn't part of the same line). If they have any of the Gazetteers, I don't know the correct searc...

If you are asking more generally, the concept exists outside of a Ravenloft context: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gazetteer
They serve a similar function in the real world to what we use them for in our games.

Re: The Black Vault Haul
Thanks! I like it too and I have been thinking of making a follow write-up of all TSR card NPCs after this article for the next Quoth the Raven. Fortunately I found all the cards I was missing in a trading card database and I have already thought of some stuff for these characters. Well, that sound...

Re: Children of the Night: Walking Dead
The power is written such that it fails over all domain borders: This power does not function across Domain borders. Should a body or several bodies cross a Domain border without the majority of its host, it crumbles apart. If somehow the hive of bodies is split between two Domains, the bodies in th...

I removed my fake spam, and as penance, here is a continuation of the story. I set off once more, my thoughts dwelling upon my recent windfall. I itched to spend it, but I had an inkling to take a cue from those banker types and make the money work for me. Perhaps I didn't have the financial sense f...
