Re: Aftermath of a Strahd Encounter
Flowers and crocodile tears wouldn't make me go into the lair of an enemy who has demonstrated he could almost wipe the whole party out without a home advantage. Indeed this is my biggest dilemma. While my players are great actors and can get into character, I just can't see them accepting the invi...

Re: Aftermath of a Strahd Encounter
I like the directness of this. It also helps directly tie Ireena to Marina as I had the players find a recent set of flowers at the statue in Berez.Joël of the FoS wrote:Have Strahd send flowers to Ireena and an apology "things should have been different, I'm sorry for my behavior that day"

Re: Aftermath of a Strahd Encounter
You know, I did consider that. But here's one major catch that I didn't include above: during the encounter, on of the PCs was dead, so she took up playing Ireena for some time so that I could build up Ireena's narrative in a way that more directly impacted the characters. So when Strahd showed up a...

Aftermath of a Strahd Encounter
Well, I did a thing that I regret doing, but have no recourse except to work with it now. I've been running Curse of Strahd relatively differently than the module suggests. The key factor being that I haven't ever had Strahd directly attack the party. He's sent minions and has been seen observing at...

Re: The Different Dogmas of Ezra?
Supposition: the Dogma presented in Gaz III is representative of all non-Darkonese sects. The other three sects are similar enough in general belief that they didn't need unique dogmas and wouldn't have bothered to reprint the same dogma three times in one book. In fact, the Borcan sidebar on Ezra R...

Re: I, Strahd: Annotated
A hardcover copy of the book goes for about $10-11 on Amazon right now and the paperback goes for a bit more right now. If one were so inclined, they could pulled the binding apart, take off the covers, find some faux leather and 'rebind' a copy with some strong adhesives into the new copy of the t...

Re: I, Strahd: Annotated
Anyway, I like this idea to "do" Strahd. Not sure if I have the time to properly commit to such a project, but I'll throw my change on the table if nobody minds. I don't know that this project requires any particular level of commitment. It's something I'd be doing anyway, but I figured c...

Re: I, Strahd: Annotated
My concerns are annotations are great, but copyrighted material (which is like 98% of this project) would be an issue (and a lot of work) to put on this forum. My suggestion would be to place the direct annotations within this thread (maybe, ultimately being turned over to the Dark Powers that be f...

I, Strahd: Annotated
I have an idea for a crowd-sourced community project, which I think could be fun! But first, some context. There exists a tabletop roleplaying game known as Night's Black Agents , which is a vampire-centric spy thriller using the GUMSHOE system. It's a really cool game. Perhaps its crowning achievem...

Re: Ravenloft GUMSHOE
Hey NeoTiamat, did you ever explore more of a GUMSHOE conversion for Ravenloft? I recently created and ran a mystery adventure for my Curse of Strahd game that I wrote up for D&D 5E using the general outline of GUMSHOE scenarios and found it to work quite well. Mind you, I was still just using D...

Re: Village of Barovia
My personal headcanon is that the Village of Barovia vacillates between a small, but populous town and a veritable ghost town. If Strahd is focused on that generation's Tatyana, I usually have the town become run-down as he pays less and less attention to it. During the times he returns to governanc...

Re: Disney inspired domains(Warning 56 possible movie spoil
I once had an idea to do something similar. The best way I found to make Disney works into Ravenloft domains was to look at each work and ask the question: "What would this look like if the key protagonist hadn't been around?" That led to some interesting conclusions for me. For instance, ...

Re: Imagery, Motifs, and Themes of Barovia
An idea for Balinok: Balinok is actually the soul of Alek Gwilym transformed by the Dark Powers. After Strahd's transformation, Alek was reborn as the black wolf, his conviction to be reunited with and serve his lord was that strong. Balinok does as Strahd commands and, having once been a commander ...

Re: Ravenloft Sale on DM Guild
I highly recommend The Beast of Graenseskov. While I have not personally run it yet, I've read it over numerous times and am using pieces of it in my Curse of Strahd game. It is a well-designed adventure that I think captures the Ravenloft feel quite well.
