I love it. It's the perfect little taste of high, dark fantasy a low-fantasy campaign can use in a setting to keep it interesting. This seems like an excellent place for wizards, sorcerers, and warlocks of all stripes to purchase spells and pay for a tutor. I have a *few* quibbles, but they're minor...

"...and the lass says, "You're not that short!" Tuke stops whispering jokes to Agna as they enter Miss Phebe's room. He holds Agna's hand firmly - he knows that without the steady patter, Agna's likely to run in fear. "All right. Let's see. No writing or any nonsense. Prankster ...

Tuke sets down his own wine and rubs small circles in Agna's back, carefully concealing the surprise he's feeling. Of all the things he expected to hear, that wasn't one of them. He takes a moment to think. He'd never paid much heed to the stories of ghostly piping in the manor. At worst, he'd figur...

In my opinion...

Gothic Horror, generally low-fantasy, Germanic in flavor if in the Core.

I do think that it's time for a clear mission statement for this project.

4e Dragonborn to Gargoyles?

One of the hangups of doing a 4e version of Ravenloft is the Dragonborn. It's hard to see how they can fit in. Jester, over on the D&D boards, suggested an interesting change - giving them wings, taking away the dragon breath, and calling them gargoyles. How much would that change their fundamen...

Oh, very neat. I love how you've set something up that isn't necessarily horrifying, or even evil, and yet still generates oodles of plot.

I actually agree with Isabella on two fronts: One, I don't like being condescended to. Two, there is an awful lot of emphasis on "the Darklord" in Ravenloft, and that's not always healthy. What's a Darklord? I've seen some fairly involved answers, but as far as I'm concerned it boils down ...

Tuke shakes his head. "No. Never." And it's always disappointed me , Tuke thinks. He always suspected there was a wild soul lurking under the prim serving girl the Pancrazios had transformed Agna into, so very long ago. Maybe Lothario's crudeness has brought something buried in her into th...

I'll agree that there has to be a "presence" in the house, but I really would like to keep that presence as mysterious as possible. When I think of the really effective ghost stories that I've heard recently - like "The Ring" - I can't help but notice that a lot of their creepine...

[whine] See now, why can't I get tasty domains Fairhaven to evaluate, instead of two villages, a road, and a crabby jackalwere?[/whine] :P Yes, I could see Fairhaven in the Core. I still want a domain that's The Woods, though - the Woods that Hansel and Gretel and Red Riding hood and the poor girl s...

Tuke looks up from his book as Agna bolts into the library. "Evening, bright-eyes! Say, have you ever smelled..." Tuke's question dies on his lips as he sees her stagger to the fireplace, scoop out the ashes, and race to the study. He walks to the door and watches her perfunctorily clean u...

Someone more controversial than I might make a comparison to certain overreactions to the very real threat of terrorism. Well meaning, and with good reason, but potentially dangerous. As opposed to Elena, who I would agree, is a textbook fascist, even if she doesn't see it. Whew. I'm not quite sure...
