Re: Canon Rokushima Taiyoo Info?
There's another NPC in Ravenloft Monstrous Compedium, Vol II. If I remember correctly, that NPC is a chiang-shi from Kara-Tur, however. I would recommend someone consider taking a long, hard look at the entry for Kazazumi on Mistipedia. The open and institutionalized trade in kidnapping women for s...

Re: Canon Rokushima Taiyoo Info?
For canon info, you've basically got: the Red Box, Ravenloft 3rd Edition Campaign Setting, and the Ravenloft Dungeon Master's Guide, and the stuff from Van Richten's Arsenal that you've already mentioned. There's an NPC in Heroes of Light, but that book has a lot of canon/continuity errors so the wh...

Re: 5e announced!
The PHB also name-drops Castle Ravenloft in the example of play on page 5.

Re: Stupid Names and Renaming Places and Characters
Sorry, I wasn't trying to rile you up or troll you. Just sharing my own experiences with the subject.
I won't make any more posts in this thread. I'm really sorry if I came off rude or anything.

Re: Stupid Names and Renaming Places and Characters
The silliness was intentional. Ravenloft has a history of puns going all the way back to the first edition module. The majority of the crypt puns were removed in the Return to Castle Ravenloft adventure for 3rd ed., probably for stylistic reasons. I don't have much use for the 1st Ed puns, whether ...

Re: Stupid Names and Renaming Places and Characters
The silliness was intentional. Ravenloft has a history of puns going all the way back to the first edition module. It's a way of providing some relief of tension to the players without making the comedy in-universe.

Re: Mordenheim and Markov.
As I imagine it, the Dark Powers don't prevent Mordenheim from leaving, but Adam will never let him go. Mordenheim's prideful obsession with his work--which relies upon a manor's worth of unique, hand-made, non-portable equipment--is an additional factor. That makes sense to me, since I've always e...

Re: Relocating Ghastria
Borca is pretty clearly the "Italy" of the core. It's the home of Ravenloft's "Pope" (The Praesidius), has organized crime families, was originally named "Borjia"... It's got some more slavic/Romanian influences too, being from the same world as Barovia, but especially...

Re: 5e announced!
So it's back to Evocation? I don't have D&D basic with me. I thought it was evocation or invocation as the example. Yup, back to Evocation: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd%2F4ll%2F20140728 Wizard: A wizard selects an arcane tradition—the specific approach to the study of magic tha...

Re: Calendar months in Ravenloft?
Yes, several of the products use the Gregorian calendar months. I vaguely recall some of them using something like 5th Moon or 7th Month, or something like that. But I can't cite that definitively right now. It was I, Strahd: Memoirs of a Vampire and it was "Sixth Moon" etc. But that book...

Re: 5e announced!
Yeah, I think you're reading too much into it, Alhoon. They never said Ravenloft would work just like the Shadowfell, just that it would replace the Shadowfell as "the plane in between the Prime and Negative Energy planes." Given that they're trying not to invalidate past works, it most li...

Nope, they first appeared in the 3rd edition PHB and were never in any 2nd edition books.alhoon wrote:IIRC sorcerers were at the very end of 2e, they were practically 3e thing.

Re: 5e announced!
Sorcerers were tested and failed. Both warlocks and sorcerers will be in, untested. They even had articles on how the sorcerer will be different to the wizard, having the equivalent of empower spells etc. Interesting, hopefully they'll be properly balanced, but that does add some more variety for a...

Re: 5e announced!
Ravenloft will be a major plane, essentially replacing the Shadowfell concept from 4th ed. as a plane in-between the Prime Material and Negative Energy planes. Overall cosmology will be closer to 2nd ed. Planescape, though. Spelljammer will focus less on connecting existing worlds and more on just ...
