4E sort of fixed the Vistani to make them be of any player race, and to give all members the "Evil Eye" ability. I suppose this concept might have been carried on to 5E to eliminate the "half-Vistani" conondrum: either you're one of them or you're not. Which I suppose is fine.

Funny this came up, as I've been DMing a Mordent-only campaign for two months now. It's still a horror game, but I basically stripped all of Ravenloft from it so as to make it simply an England-sized confederacy that isn't part of any world at all.

To be fair, the Vistani have always been able to go in and out the Domains of Dread long before 3E.
