Re: African Core

So is the darklord for this domain different than the ruler of said domain? You seem to be stating that the domain ruler has changed 3 times. Secular rulership can be passed down father to son, but Ravenloft domain rulership doesn't transfer at ruler's death - its not something you can inherit (nor ...

Re: Headless Horseman - Brainstorming

Rite Publishing recently released a 5e and PF version of the Headless Horseman as a monster template along with some feats. I just noticed this, and thought it worth posting in this thread.

Re: 3.5 Campaign Help - Build me a PC

I agree with Gonzoron, the Alchemist class from Pathfinder is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - even in a 3x game, I'd run an alchemist to fit this motif. I might also peruse the available archetypes for something more specific to meet your concept. Although alchemistry is a bit "magic-y", its wea...

Re: Gargoyles anyone?

I am sure it isn't what you're looking for, but Rite Publishing offers a playable race guide for Gargoyles as PCs or NPCs, called In the Company of Gargoyles . These gargoyles are more neutrally aligned than standard gargoyle monsters, that serve as sentinels for the gothic structures they inhabit a...

Re: Meeting firearms the first time and learning how to use

I would suspect that despite the few number of steps needed to properly load and use a firearm being fairly easy to learn, if nobody is teaching you, it isn't something you can pick and figure out automatically on your own. It requires some modicum of training to properly use. If you overload the gu...

Re: Headless Horseman - Brainstorming

Yes, as far as corporeal ghosts go, there are two mentioned in the Kaidan books (though these are third party Pathfinder rules). In Haiku of Horror: Autumn Moon Bath House , the ghost has several special corporeal hair attacks she can do even if she is otherwise fully incorporeal. In the second Curs...

Re: Silent Hill style horror in a Ravenloft game?

Well aside from the burning, the Cherry Mine Disaster occurred in 1909 and killed 259 men and boys with about 250 survivors. It was the largest mining disaster at the time, and forced Illinois to change both its mining safety statues and Workman's Compensation laws. One group of survivors (21 people...

Re: Silent Hill style horror in a Ravenloft game?

I've never played Silent Hill, although I've been told the original story is about the Cherry Mine disaster, a multi-year burning coal mine near Cherry, Illinois - which is only about 30 miles from where I live. I've been to Cherry, Illinois, and roughly know where this mine is supposed to be, but t...

Sinister architecture constructed from archival footage from the Library of Congress by Jim Kazanjian - some very creepy imagery.

Note the other linked images on the bottom of the page for more images by Kazanjian and others for more creepiness.

Re: Is Ravenloft too "high fantasy"/"D&Desque?

Ravenloft is just a setting. While it was certainly designed within the D&D ruleset (1e, 2e, 3x, and more coming soon), a setting can exist within the confines of many rule systems, including ones that have absolutely nothing to do with D&D or D&Desque systems. Many here and elsewhere pl...

Who were the Vistani and Madam Eva in your antebellum conversion?

I could see a female slave hoodoo witch or oracle serving the role of Madam Eva - maybe devise a system of reading thrown bones, as an alternative to Tarroka (though the Tarroka deck fits too.)

Re: Firearms in Ravenloft

Additionally, gunpowder gets wet and doesn't want to fire, so using guns in the rain, heavy mist, and snow can be problematic. Of course gunpowder is highly combustable, which means sparks, campfire/torch embers, and similar hazards make gunpowder storage a dangerous situation. Aside from all the po...

Horses on North America were extinct back in the Plieostocene Era. The Spanish reintroduced the horse to the Western hemisphere. All wild horses in North America are descendants of these Spanish horses.

Re: A Simple Suggestion

I usually do. When I'm discussing material that is specifically Pathfinder, like my Kaidan setting or the posting of a home-made magus gunfighter archetype called the Shootist. However, most other posts or discussions of mine are Ravenloft setting concerns and edition agnostic. Since I've played all...
