|Post subject:||Monte Mal version 2: Electric Boogaloo.|
Good news everyone, I am working on a 5e update of Monte Mal, advancing the metaplot in the city according to my group's exploits recently in the city. The party was odd for Ravenloft, having originated in the 4e Points of Light campaign setting (Keep on the Shadowfell etc.) That said, we have a new villain, the party fighter Barash.
A little preview to tease the upcoming netbook:
November 11, 763
My apologies for the lateness of this letter. Matters in Monte Mal have been rather dire of late. The nascent rebellion of which I wrote you erupted into violence at long last, with the oppressed masses striking from the shadows at the forces under the control of the doge. Unfortunately, this has not helped matters in the least.
The doge has used the riots and bombings as an excuse to tighten his grip on the city. The council is helpless to rein him in. Those who show any sympathy to the rebels often disappear in the night, and are not seen again. It is believed they are taken to the prisons, but even our fair city's penal system could hold only so many.
Marcus and I have worked to affect an escape for as many of the refugees displaced by the fighting as we are able, but the guards watch every wagon leaving the city. Thoqq was able to find a storm drain in the sewers running under the inn that empties into a nearby lake, but even that cannot go unnoticed by the doge's forces forever.
Of our friend Ulfgar, I have no news. The last I heard he was manning a barricade alongside a party of adventurers that had come out of the mists. It is believed that none of them survived the skirmish, but, then again, no bodies were recovered. It is perhaps possible they found a way out of the city after the fighting. Certainly the warriors he was fighting alongside were formidable, your uncle would have enjoyed studying them I am sure.
I am writing again with an update on our war torn city. Within these pages you should find any information you could want on the state of things in Monte Mal, as well as the major players in the events. It is divided into sections based on the geography, history, and sociology of the city for ease of reference.
I must go, Marcus is here with another group of the local non-human community needing guidance through the sewers. I shall write again when the situation permits it. Hopefully the next letter will come in better times. We shall see.
