Castlevania on Netflix - anyone watching?

I watched, I enjoyed. Beautifully drawn (I forgot how much I missed 2d animation!), well acted, good script, taken seriously. While Dracula's powers are completely over the top, it does successfully paint him as the true vampire of vampires. (sorry, Strahd, old buddy.) The gore level is unexpectedly high, and I wasn't expecting adult language too (no problems with that, it was just jarring. Although based on a video game I played when I was 10, I can definitely see why this doesn't show up in the Netflix kids section!). It definitely felt like "Ravenloft: the Anime" at many points, and that's a very good thing.

My only real complaint is that the first half or so is slow to get going.

We don't even meet a Belmont until episode 2 of 4!
And the ending...

Is only the beginning! The party of PCs gets together and goes off to face Dracula, and then.... end credits. I sincerely hope they are planning more of these. The first 4 are just to whet our appetites, right?
Anyone else seen it?

I did watch it, but I am not a big anime fan. Not really my bag, but I did find out I like Game of Thrones on HBO, not the books LOL

I watched it, and for the most part, liked it. I agree with Gonzoron on - language; series length; and Dracula's power level.

Kinda wished it was closer to PG, or PG-13 with the gore and language tho - I think it'd be good for pre-teen/teenagers to watch if it were a little less salty in the language department, and a little less splatter horror & more suspense horror.

But, if Netflix stays in business and makes season 2, I'll watch it :D

Saw it. Beautiful images, I wish I had access to some of these to keep as a reference for my game.

However, it is way too slow and predictable at times. They need a better person to make the scenario and dialogues.

8/10 visual, 5/10 story

I've seen it. It's nice to see the series following the story of Castlevania 3 rather than the spin-off prequel Lords of Shadow, which is itself a prequel to Castlevania Legends for the original Game Boy.

I do share the same complaints about the slow pace and predictability of plot. I also have to add a complaint about how short Season One is. We get five or six episodes, less than three hours viewing time, and Netflix calls that a full season? Otherwise I applaud the faithful adherence to the game's story, such as it is.

I don't really mind the language since the only people who could remember when the game it's based was current on would be adults. Plus the original video game series was never intended to be played by kids or younger teens. Every game, save cartoon-y spin-offs, has dealt with themes and ideas that were controversial at the time. Not to mention the assorted censorship the various games underwent in the US and Europe during the '80s and '90s. The most recent CV games (Lords of Shadow 1-2) likewise use the ugly realities of religious doctrines and practices to explain how Dracula went from a holy warrior to a monster empowered by Satan himself and then a romantic antihero who opposes a religious tyranny created by the forces of Hell as part of an agreement to escape his own immortality.
