Dorgio will ask Alain's advice.

I spoke with LordSkybolt about the ritual, so I know his PC will offer advice if asked.

RESULTS

#1 A spell isn't going to cut it. At best, a casting of dimensional anchor would hold the portal closed--maybe--for a short while. But if you lack the great magical power needed to make such an effected permanent, too bad. And that could be dispelled by someone like this warlock you have captured. Dangerous as it appears to be, the incantation from the secret library presents the best option.
A magic circle against evil could, in theory, hold any portal-crossing creature that popped up--but only temporarily and a strong-willed monster might break through.

#2 If you had that silver key Benn keeps at his house, the one the bad guys were trying to steal when they burglarized him more than once...
It opened this portal eight years ago. Maybe it can help seal it now, even with the portal 'holed' by the warlock's magical experimentation. The key could be incorporated into the Incantation of the Dark Road to boost your chances of success.

#3 Dorgio's prayers can greatly increase your chances of performing the incantation, but he will need to pray again at dawn to refresh his divine gifts.

He can obtain auto-success on four out of six Arcana rolls, and offer a +1 morale bonus to any other rolls made by his fellow incantation casters

#4 You need at least three casters for the incantation. Zero chance of success without Benn being one of these.

#5 If you have a way of plumbing the ethereal plane, sensing the ghostly resonances--this would increase your odds of pulling off the rite.

#6 The portal would still be active during any such attempt, and all the junk being piled on now will have to be cleared when the time comes, so it would be wise to have men ready to do battle.

#7 The 'dimensional magic' the warlock mentioned using to poke a hole in the solidified portal disk might be some sort of summoning or teleportation spell.

#8 The incantation crosses barriers between life and death, the world of mortals and the worlds beyond. Be warned.

Is Alwina actually using Klokulf's clerical vestments, or were they left on the floor when she stood to kick the wall?

Vestments on, but like a cloak.

Her own clothing consists of the torn remains of a scanty, sleevless tunic. It doesn't cover much, by itself.

Go ahead and roll, if you like.

I'm cutting this chapter here.

Anybody need healing? Dorgio saved many spell slots and has spontaneous healing, plus prepped cures.

I would suggest he keeps some magic just in case. The portal is still open

Similar results.

Magic Circle is a good idea, but only a very short term fix.

WHAT THE DM NEEDS TO KNOW BEFORE WE OPEN THE NEXT CHAPTER

1: Is Kat going with Benn to fetch the Silver Key?

2: Who is keeping an eye on the portal? Nobody?

4: What about the captive warlock?

5: Who needs a healing spell from Dorgio?

6: Where is the party planning to rest for the night?

NOTE:

The baddies had one area set up as a makeshift barracks, not far away. You likely ran across it in the search for stuff to put on/over the portal.

Few cots, just blankets on the stone floor of a large dungeon room. Dry, not far from portal room.
