Alain sees that one of the grave markers has toppled to the hillside. Loose dirt mounded about it suggests a recent unearthing. And a short detour and look down into the hole show that it has indeed been dug up recently. Splinters stick up here and there in the dirt.

BENN ONLY

VIEW CONTENT:
Benn

Benn knew a John Strange.
Amnesiac.
Hauled out of the Musarde in a box!
He was on the riverboat with Benn and the others on the latter part of the return trip home from their fateful expedition to Wolutha's forest domain.
The man became enmeshed in the party's brief investigation of a Falkovnian officer's murder in Karina, Invidia.
Later, he helped in the (failed)attempt to provide security for the Sancerres.
Something bad happened to the man and his gnome companion after Jonathon Maytr murdered Evie Sancerre and attacked Benn, revealing himself to be the Woman-Killer.
Benn was focused on catching Maytr before he fled the city. A failed effort.
Galandel the elf had been in a deadly brawl with gendarmes and was being flogged before exile.
In all the madness , Benn lost track of what exactly Strange and the gnome were up to.
But it got them both killed.
Something about black magic and things called through the Mists. A stolen scroll and a conjuring. Benn's fleeting encounter with the summoned thing had come in the house of Doctor Mirabulos, (a helpful necromancer since lynched by peasants).
Benn never saw the monster he heard its terrible voice in a place of ash and darkness...

Check end of Chapter 11 Mists over the Musarde, if you care to do so.

Benn's experience at the time was shocking and vivid enough, he can recall it still.

ALAIN only

John Strange? About eight years ago? Wasn't that the name of the man who was killed by some kind of conjured monster, the day that Galandel was scourged at the Great Gallows? Alain didn't know him well. But he was helping the party in its investigations of the Woman-Killer. Travelled with a gnome sidekick.
Whatever killed him fled, but not before making threats.
What was it that the thing said?
Alain cannot recall. It's like someone else's memories. Many things from his past are like that now, since the curse of Darkon fell upon him.
And it might not be the same John Strange. Could just be a coincidence...

Raen is there too. :( Alain should notice him too.

[dice]0[/dice] +13 search roll for the gravesite, once we get there.

Results posted.

Note--this is the gravesite Alain spotted.

Your guy is actually stopping to search, so I gave more details.

Does the green glass look scorched on the inside, as one would expect from a lantern?

The glass fragments show a dark stain on the inside. Smells sharp, nasty.
It looks like the remains of a flask that was used to carry some corrosive substance or mixture.

Does the substance smell like something used in the boom-stuff that was blowing up and down the town?
