Important vote - future of this site

Post by Joël of the FoS »

Ladies and gent,

As some of you already know, since we are not good at keeping secrets, our server cost is going through the FoS Manor roof because as you know we have a lot of Ravenloft netbook downloads. Unfortunately, we can't pay for this anymore, as it will become really astronomous in April from what our server manager told us.

But we won't let Ravenloft fans down, don't worry! This site has been quiet for the last weeks, expect some changes to happen soon...

So among many cost cutting possibilities we selected merging our site with another one with similar interest to share server space. That would also mean sharing messenger boards, web pages and similar, of course. We really have to do this to insure this site's future.

But guess what, we asked the two web site choices we had selected for merger, and both said yes! I guess only a fool would not try to do as we do and cut server cost.

So ladies and gentlemen, decision time!

We now need your vote, tell us:

We should merge our FoS site with ...

The site of Hala's store

or

The site of the mighty Moor hounds

Please cast your vote here, it's important!

No spoilers!

I, for one, am of two minds. Both sites look like excellent choices, and surely would do this community a great service. However, it could also be a great idea to host netbooks and other bandwidth consuming items in sites like Rapidshare or Megaupload, thus lessening the burden on the FoS site.

Let's see what other fellow posters think...

I hate you. I really, really hate you, members of the Fraternity! I fell for this like a 5 year old kid! Damned foreign festivities...

But the sites did surprise me :-D Especially the Ravenloft kennels... I'd vote on that one, only because I feel like it :-)

I am very sure I had posted a message before this one denouncing the italicized April and Fool.
What happened for it to have gone away?

Definitely the second one: everyone love doggies!!! :D

Including twisted vampiric half-illithid doggies, of course

See! I knew something was up! This news is... odd. Can server costs really be that expensive these days?

I suppose in these times, money's tight for everyone. Personally, I'd be glad to pitch in a few bucks to keep the FoS independent. But, if this is the way you guys chose to go... I suppose the store is at least thematically close. The pups are cute, but relly, why are they even using the Ravenloft name? I don't get it...

Well, at least you're not shutting down... :/

Not too much... They're on the first and third page of my results, respectively; and in my country google gives priority to results in spanish over those in english.

Nice, I am surprised that some of us went along with it.

Happy April 1st everyone!

I never trust such posts on April 1. I wait until a couple of days after before I take them seriously.

Honestly, this kind of thing would have been better if it had gotten started about a month ago, or even longer. Have two sites that are willing to go along with it. Have an actual vote here. The "winner" even posts something similar on their end to make it seem legit. April 1 should have been saved for the big "gotcha" reveal.

Hehe, we're indeed meddling databases with another D&D sister site...

Let me give you a hint, because I didn't vote in this decission and still think it should be discussed with the people here:

Didn't you notice the increase of the forum discussion related to Planescape?

Probably a lot of people who fell for this prank now feel the same way, BBQD. :)

Although AFAIK, Rafael's 'promotion' gag was entirely his own idea, not ours!

I had actually worked on a fun thread like last year,
this time not suggesting an I6 revamp, but the merging of the FOS and the Planewalker site...

...And when I was about to post it, I saw Joel had been quicker.

In order not to create more chaos, I then thought it would be best to do something else...

And so I started pestering the people over at the fan fiction board. :P

Congrats, Ron! :D :D :D
