Solomon Kane: the movie

Post by Catman Jim »

Solomon Kane, the Robert Howard character, has been made into a movie. Here's a link to the trailer:

I've always felt the stories had a Ravenloft feel to them. I would see this if it ever came to a theater near me, I may have to wait for the DVD.

I went to see it last Saturday and I've posted my Solomon Kane review on my blog. I've not read the stories (although I'm looking to get a copy now) but the film has a nice Ravenloft feel. It should be pretty easy to use it as a setting for Ravenloft. For 2nd Edition I'd use the old TSR Mighty Fortress sourcebook for background and firearms rules. For 3rd ed it might be useful to pilfer background stuff from but no need to lift the firearms rules.

Can't wait to see this. I highly recommend the fiction of Robert Howard. Great author AND a friend of HP Lovecraft.

Watched it. Excellent. Not very close to the stories, but EXTREMELY entertaining.

No LotR, but certainly better than most stuff out in the last few years.

When faced with a question like that, it's best to go to wikipedia. That's where I learned.

Could we say that maybe Van Richten is our Solomon Kane?

Maybe, but I think George Weathermay would fit the bill, too. They've even got the same hat!

George is much closer, since he takes a more reaving and less scholarly approach to monster hunting.

I've managed to watch it, despite it's non-existence (STILL!) in the U.S.

Awesome movie. As previously mentioned, doesn't follow the books all that closely, but who cares? The film is a blast. And Solomon Kane = uber-badass monster hunter.

I think George may fit the bill better than Van Richten. VR is badass, but he's badass librarian/herbalist/little old man. :)
