Pathfinder: Anchorite Class

Post by Twin Agate Dragons »

Just thought I'd share my latest creation: The Anchorite base class, which is the replacement class for monks in my homebrew. With little or no alteration it could work in a Ravenloft campaign.

I really think you should set some limit to how much chi one can spend in a round; if my calculations are correct a 5th-level Anachorite with Wisdom 20 and Fire Bender can cast a Meteor Swarm spell (and feint).
Coltiviamo per tutti un rancore
che ha l'odore del sangue rappreso
ciò che allora chiamammo dolore
è soltanto un discorso sospeso

Since Meteror Swarm is a 9th level spell and using the Fire Bender basic chi ability to cast it requires the expenditure of 30 chi.

So your example anchorite could use it, but would have to have their full chi pool available to them. The limitations on the chi put in place (expending your entire chi pool puts the character out of comission for 8 hours and then awakens fatigued) encourage characters to not do this.

Question: How is this the same as the Ravenloft Anchorite when you say it's alignment: any?

It's not. It's a new class inspired from various sources.

Except... it's still a 9th level character casting a spell you don't normally get until 17th level. If the character can save it through an adventure they can Death Blossom on the final encounter, and any time there's an adventure that takes place in a single day they can use that power.

This will be included with the class info shortly:

A NOTE ON ELEMENTAL BENDING
Anchorites that take any of the elemental bending techniques have a limit on the level of spell that they invoke. The anchorite must have a minimum class level equal to twice the spells level in order to invoke the specified spell.

Reminds me of psionics a little, not a bad thing; but I think some tidying up is required. Just wondering what domain or general feel is the class going for? The Paridon feel monk with Ezra or is it more asian?

Elemental bending? So basically this class is supposed to represent the casters from Avatar: The Last Airbender? Why not just call the class Bender instead of Anchorite, it would be a lot less confusing.

Due to the fact that the class encompasses a lot more than just the elements. It draws upon the power of the characters spirit/soul to achieve miraculous effects. See the wikipedia anchorite article and you will quickly notice on why I chose the name for the class.
