Re: Ravenloft Artbook of Talon Dunning
Yes this is exactly what I meant herkles.
And just by curiosity, how many time did it take to draw a piece?
And FINALLY I SAW THE BOOK! Wonderful book! Really like the art and the presentation!
And I'm the happy soul to get Laurie Foxgrove-Weathermay! Sadly I don't have access to scanner so it could take a while before I can show it to you.
But I agree with the other, you just have the touch to draw women!

Depends on the piece. The little sketchcards I'm putting in the books take about 45 minutes. The portraits I did for publication take a few hours as they're larger and require more effort. Full illustrations can take hours or days depending on the size, complexity and how long it takes me to work out the composition, which is often the most difficult part. Obviously, paintings take the longest to complete.Scipion_Emilien wrote:And just by curiosity, how many time did it take to draw a piece?

You mean a sketch card? It would be hard to get both of them on a card. If you mean the original art from the book, it's for sale. $100 and it's yours.herkles wrote:and I would really love to see the image of the twins. heeh

So, I ordered this. Talon's work defined 3rd Ed Ravenloft for me.
This may be the book to get back into the Mists with.

Thanks a lot for your very generous offer, Damien! Fortunately, I finally got around to order one today.Damien Logos wrote:I placed an order for two of those 11, Dimitri. Good luck, man! With all you've done for the FoS and Ravenloft communities, I'd be willing to place an order for a third, to reserve it for you, if you're interested, man.Dimitri Mazieres wrote:Aarrggh! As others have stated, Talon, you gave Ravenloft 3e a face of its own with a style that was unique, coherent and recognizable. WotC should seriously consider you as an option for 4e Ravenloft, if they intend to keep the gothic atmosphere of the demiplane of dread.
Nevertheless, it's great to see this kind of generosity among the Fraternity members!

Re: Ravenloft Artbook of Talon Dunning
I got mine a while ago, and it is indeed very nice. Here's the sketch:
Dr. Jean-Phillipe Moreaux (a human)
I'm not familiar with this Ravenloft NPC, though I suspect that he could be one of Talon's PCs, specifically the one from the 3 humans picture, where he notes that the right one was a PC.
Am I right? If yes please tell us a bit more about him...

Re: Ravenloft Artbook of Talon Dunning
You are correct. I don't actually have a lot of information on him, actually. Dr. Moreaux (an inspired name, I know) was loosely based on one of my old AD&D Ravenloft PCs from college. The original version was pretty out there (a sort of 2e sorcerer who could cast spontaneous spells via different combinations of Tarokka cards). This version is a straight-up Sorcerer and a contemporary and sometimes rival of Dr. Van Richten. They knew each-other in college. That's really about all I have on him. The racial signature characters were the first drawings I did for Ravenloft. As I drew them, I gave most of them names and classes and a few of them got little tidbits of character background. Here's a list:The Giamarga wrote:I got mine a while ago, and it is indeed very nice. Dr. Jean-Phillipe Moreaux (a human)

Humans: Sir Tenel Berelon (pal); Lady Isa LeBrinne (wzd); Dr. Jean-Phillpe Moreaux (sor -had I ever played him under 3e, he probably would have ended up gaining metaphysisican or white arcanist levels as well).
Elves: Neerynna (ftr/wzd/arcane archer); Gyronn (wzd/rge)
Gnomes: Unnamed male (wzd: necromancer); Unnamed female (rge/assassin: she's a witch-hunter who hates spellcasters and is unusually grumpy for a gnome)
Dwarves: Aven Brondel (ftr); Tria Brondel (ftr/brd): a married couple
Half-Vistani: unnamed adult female (wzd: diviner); Unnamed adult male (rge); Brenna Wynn Malistrande (teenage female: witch -another AD&D PC of mine, this one using the Witch class from Dragon Magazine #114. In 3e, she would have been a wizard/hallowed witch).
Half-elves: I've either lost or sold the original art, so I no longer have their names. The male was a cleric and the female, a bard. Her design was based on a drawing I'd done earlier just for kicks.
Halflings: Kyri-Rynn (ftr/rge); Lanaa Featherstaff (druid)
Calibans: The Kriedel Siblings: Grend (barbarian), Morden (ftr/sor) and Helena (sor/rge) -Technically, half-siblings, all bearing their human mother's name. She was cursed and killed herself after Helena's birth.
Several of these characters, including Gyronn, Grend, Lanaa Featherstaff and Dr. Moreaux, appeared in later illustrations, especially Dr. Moreaux who made multiple appearances. None of the other signature characters I did (mostly for prestige classes) got names. I mailed out a sketch of the Anchorite of the Mists character a week or so ago and I may have given her a name on that, but if I did, I stupidly didn't write it down. She became one of my favorite repeat characters and made many appearances throughout the Ravenloft books.
I'm glad you like the sketch!

Cool, he got a similar scar than Patrick Connor's, a NPC I used IMC.

Re: Ravenloft Artbook of Talon Dunning
Yeah, I have no idea what the story behind that scar is. It's probably something entirely non-heroic. Like his college girlfriend hit him in the face with a frying pan when he suggested that she might want to wear a dress that didn't make her ass look so big or something.Joël of the FoS wrote:Cool, he got a similar scar than Patrick Connor's, a NPC I used IMC.
