Spell level pushes it over. She isn't healed.

Adding in the other damage you just did, she's hurt but not dropped.

He action after the orb badly hurts her is to grab the skull and try to leap past Alain, down the stairwell and trap door!

Alain does get an AoO.

AoO with Morning Star
[dice]0[/dice] +4 to hit .

If it hits damage:
[dice]1[/dice] +1 .

She's down and out.

She also falls down the stairs, taking another 1d6 damage.

[dice]0[/dice]

Unless you try to save her.
But a failure could end up with you falling too.

But maybe you want to grab the skull instead, huh?

If he drops his morning star (not down the stairs, just to the floor of the attic/garret/upper room) and uses both hands, I'll let him grab it if he makes a DC 10 dexterity -based roll. That is, roll a D20 and add your DEX bonus. I'll be generous and say that in this particular instance , his long fingers help him, so he gets a further +2 for his monster hands.

OK so that would be 1d20 +4
[dice]0[/dice] +4 Dex check

So that makes it by 10 Points :) .
