Meh, in RL the shades would death shades, and that would mire us down in debates as to whether they really ought to require a powers check considering the spell they mimic does require one, and then it's all canon-flaming and retcon.

She's pining to make a character, but Nathan says this campaign might not be appropriate for an 11-year old--even one who has been hearing about RL since she was a newborn. (It's a tradition in our family, the first story you read them is the Barker's Tour from Carnival.)

No problem here, like I said, it's Nathan's call. I asked my daughter if she would like to just lurk and learn about an online game, and she refused, so maybe her interest wasn't as high as I thought. Maybe she just wanted to keep playing her character from our last canceled game.

Oh, I totally didn't want to cut in line in front of anyone! I just had an NPC that could work in Hazlan that I'd been meaning to write for awhile, and I heard about this game, like, yesterday. Figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Fight! Fight to the death for the spot! Whistler, since you're fighting an 11 year old girl we're going to have to even the odds by arming you with a pool noodle and taking a claw hammer to one of your knees. This is all for the sake of fairness, so hold still.

I think she may forfeit. She's not interested in making a character at this point, although she may yet decide to lurk. Whistler is free to put forward his petition to Nathan, although I can't guarantee that my daughter won't still beat him with his pool noodle here on the lurking threads.

We're gonna start with five, Whistler, but if this part of the campaign goes well I'd like to add another part which will need...more players! We may also add players between chapters, especially if anyone has to drop out for some reason. So, y'know, follow along and keep your eyes peeled! Your chance is coming!
