THE RAID

Gunnar, his men and any volunteers who join them move towards the Three Penny less than an hour after nightfall.

As the near the sites one of them spots two men entering the shabby two story tavern and boarding house through a side door. The night is dark and the two strangers went inside quickly, so it is hard to be sure, but it looks as if they were wearing sacks or hoods over their heads...

Termelan is there by the knight. He has a crossbow strapped to his back and requests permission from Gunnar to use it.
As the men flee isnide, Termelan looks at the knight and asks "since we won't get them by surprise, should I start singing a tone of my homeland, a paean our soldiers sing before engaging enemies? I am positive it will bolster the spirits of your men."

Termelan wears openly the gift the duke gave him.

SEARCHERS

"...An' then I woke up on the side o' the mountain, wi' a mine devil wavin' a bone wand over me an' healin' my wounds," Cormac says, talking around a mouthful of meat, "An' then we came down the mountain, camped, an' met you lot."

He drops silent unceremoniously, looking to the men at the table for their reaction.
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

LUNCHEON WITH SIR EGELMORE AND HIS MEN

The robber knight's lieutenants and their guards smile, laugh, rattle their mugs on the log, and toast Cormac and his friends.

Sir Egelmore says, ''It sounds as if you lot have really shoved a burr under The Elf's bony arse."
He joins his men in toasting the druid and the others.

SEARCHERS: LUNCH

Cormac smiles at the others' approval. "Now the question is where we go from here. Our friends are still missin', an' we got no specific way o' knowin' where they're bein' held. You know anythin' about that? Our elf prisoners said they was held in some Tower o' the Thorns place."

Priestess Idele answers,
"I don't know for sure, but in another hour or so the toxin should really begin to work again. I don't know that it will prove deadly...but it will harm her. It may be that another priest will arrive soon, prepared to purge the poison entirely-- but I'm not sure about that."
"Maybe we can go look for this priest ourselves?" Cranstel suggests. "Perhaps we can motivate them to move faster. I don't want to see her suffer...unnecessarily."

''Agreed."

Prietess Idele orders a servant to grab a torch, and all three set out into the evening.

They do not find the priest, but they do encounter two armed messengers from Sir Gunnar, men of his personal warband.
The men relate that their master invites Safana to join a raid on the Three Penny, a boarding house and tavern of bad reputation. Intelligence reports indicate that the establishment is a meeting place for the hooded gang.

Idele says to Cranstel,
"That's odd. I was going over the accounts of spoiled food and tainted brew we've gotten from all over town, earlier. I meant to talk with you about it when I got the summons to help Safana. The Three Penny is the only eating and drinking house in the city that has not had such problems. Maybe that means nothing..."

Sir Egremore replies,
''That is bad news indeed, if it is true. Few have ever escaped the tower fortress of The Elf."

One of his lieutenants, a grizzled old man with a scarred face, leans forward and says, " Aye, that's true. But didn't we hear some'at about lads and lasses taken under the mountain?"

The Brown Knight sets down his mug. ''Ah! That's right. I knew I was forgetting something." He turns back to Cormac. "It could be false, but a peddler who sometimes brings us supplies swore that he saw elves leading human children into a cave or mine entrance not too far from here. This was last season. I sent some men to check it out and they found nothing, but it might be they were looking in the wrong place."

Priestess Idele looks at Safana. "I've held off to lengthen her safe period as long as possible, but now it's time.''
The priestess lays hands on the Khinasi woman and intones a prayer. She crushes a bit of garlic as she speaks the final syllables in Old Andu.
"I've renewed the rite I used to slow the toxin. " The young priestess wipes perspiration from her face (sweaty despite the cold weather).
"I was prepared to deal with food poisoning-- the same rites work against most poisons. But I cannot do this again with such effect until morning, after I have had time to pray and make sacrifices."

Safana says that she wishes to go on the raid.

Assuming she survives the poison, of course.
Gunnar's men do not object to bringing the priestess and the apothecary. Indeed, they seem happy to have more help.
