Crimson Peak

Post by GreenWood »

This film has Ravenloft written all over it. Its very Gothic, creepy and full of atmosphere. The violence in it is shocking in savagery, but violence is supposed to be shocking. Amazing film, I cannot recommend it enough.

Seems my cup of tea, I'll look for it.

It's a great film. I think it would fit very much into an advanced domain in Ravenloft. Great acting too!

Great atmospheric and beautifully gothic movie, if a little low on story. The familly secret is cool, but story can be summarized in too few sentences...
"A full set of (game) rules is so massively complicated that the only time they were all bound together in a single volume, they underwent gravitational collapse and became a black hole" (Adams)

The visuals alone make it worth your time.

Watching it. The beginning alone, was worth of my time.
And I like the characters, at least so far. They're very likable making their very probable early demise (it's a horror movie after all) touching. I even like the ghost (at least up to minute 15)! A bit TOO intrusive, but I guess I can't flaw a ghost of that.
EDIT: Make that plural. I like both ghosts so far, although both are intrusive and have no sense of propriety.

May I say... that I like the colors? Quite vibrant.

Storywise, I get what Joel's saying as it unfolds slowly, but I don't mind that. I enjoy building the suspense slowly. Although, unless I'm very wrong, the story is kinda predictable. There are some... visual clues when a scene closes and where the camera focuses. It's a rare film that gives spoilers by itself, but it feels like this is one such film.

And I found a believability breaking flaw:
VIEW CONTENT:
When you know you have to do with people that murdered their mother and spent time in an institution, and to your knowledge at the very least poisoned a few other people since... you kinda expect they will attack you
Final Verdict: 3.5 flickering candles out of 5.
Good start, lags towards the middle but still enjoyable, sub-par ending but not terrible.
