Don't worry about speed factor, except in ties and quick draw situations.

Ignore the somewhat cheesy katana. Ditto any bizarre weapons you haven't heard of; they might not exist. Some could, though.
I pretty much stick to PHB weapons.

Can I use the blunt end of the Arquebus as a mace without damaging it in the AO? It was quite commonly used before bayonettes. Even today, the rifles our military uses can be used as blunt weapons.
I assume I can't draw short-sword in AO.

He yes he can certainly butt stroke/bash with it.

Yes, the guy rolled a 15 to hit.
So he hit AC five even with 20 THAC0.
Fild is AC 6

May want to get better armor, if he can lug it around.

It does take multiple rounds to reload.

Thom can indeed shoot the arquebus. He might prefer his bow, though.
