He will certainly give the contents of the book a look. He will ask for help with the box, unless the lock happens to be disengaged or purely decorative.

The lock is not locked.

Inside, two candles and a velvet lining, somewhat crushed, with a vagely hand-shaped depression.

On the first page of this book, he sees this warning:

Doomed the man who reads this book
Lest first he at this leaf does look
And call out the names writ beneath
The Daemon soon shall stop his breath
TOGASTA
ARABRAD
FOGARUM
Delight is to him- a far, far upward, and inward delight- who against the proud gods and commodores of this earth, ever stands forth his own inexorable self.

Alain would go with Dorigo to help guard him and get more healing just before Dawn, but would need to get some sleep himself to recover his spell alotment to full . I'm trying to rember how much he is down . I think about by 20 HP down with that last heal . So if someone could said wand to heal heal him upto that before he goes with Dorigo it would be much appreciated .

1: Is Kat going with Benn to fetch the Silver Key?

2: Who is keeping an eye on the portal? Nobody?

3: What about the captive warlock?

4: Who needs a healing spell from Dorgio?

5: Where is the party planning to rest for the night?

NOTE:

The baddies had one area set up as a makeshift barracks, not far away. You likely ran across it in the search for stuff to put on/over the portal.

Few cots, just blankets on the stone floor of a large dungeon room. Dry, not far from portal room.

Question #1 answered. Kat goes with Benn. So does Alain.

#2 Armored Swordsman watches portal

#3 Klokulf volunteers to watch the warlock.

# 4 Results noted here in OOC.

#5 Only partly answered, but my impression is that the party is not splitting up for the whole night, just temporarilly.
If it can be helped.

But what about Raen? Alhoon noted Raen's strong dislike of the idea of sleeping in or under the Grim Bastion. Will he go home, then, even if it is by himself?

Legitimate warning or tricky ruse? Klokulf will cast detect magic, focusing on the book, box, and candles--assuming the breath-stopping doesn't happen. If there is anything to identify, his Spellcraft modifier is +10.

How much do the book and the box (with its contents) weigh?

He will also scan Alwina with detect magic. He didn't understand Raen's warning, but it is still a reasonable course of action while the spell is active.

Candles are magic. Necromancy and transmutation, faint.

Alwina does not detect as magical.

RE book

Is he following the instructions before looking at any page after the first?
He is detecting magic on the page, but it's not easy to identify.
