Curse of the Witch King Chapter 6

"Alright, then, "Klokulf says as he rubs his forehead, his eyes closed. "If we find the darkness of the Stair isn't particularly extensive, we can wait until first light tomorrow to mount a full expedition."

He turns from Alain to Kat. "Before we are off, you were the last one in the basement. Does anything remain that is worth examination?"

(I'm taking the liberty of advancing the scene, as Kintire's PC intended to warn the party about the creepy message she found in the cellar.)


IN THE CELLAR


Klokulf, Alain, and Fala find the message on the wall, just as Kat described it.

THE SONS OF ORCUS
EVER WE RISE



The cabbalistic circles and glyphs half-obscured on the dusty floor look like some sort of necromantic ceremonial magic to Klokulf, an odd mixture of priestly and profane powers.

Alain alone can read the terrible message hidden in the sorcerous runes.

ORCUS IS THE LORD OF THE GRAVE
YOU WHO READ THESE WORDS
KNOW THAT YOU HAVE BEEN MARKED
YOU WILL NEVER REST IN DEATH
BUT RISE TO SERVE THE SONS
UNTIL THIS CURSE IS LIFTED
BY COLD IRON AND HOT BLOOD

Alain does not read out load any of the words but gives general gist that its a curse on the former animated zombies the party fought .

Klokulf, now busily replicating the sigils in a notebook, says, "If these Sons of Orcus weren't already residing in the Stair, I daresay they will return to it now that they are here."

Kat frowns

"Um...we've read these words. Are you sure the curse is just on them?"

[Lord Skybolt]

"Yes, your right and good thing I'm the only one who could read them completely . So why don't you stand back while I get to erasing them from the wall in safe way ."Alain says and gets to acting on his words . In a aside to Klokulf "This is trap for anyone who reads them but I stopped before reading them completely so you may not want to keep copying them any more. "

[Wolfglide of the Fraternity]

"On the contrary," replies Klokulf, "the Sons of Orcus are of great significance to the history of the region. It is quite important that I document this. I should think my facsimile of the scene is incapable of carrying the effects, but I can examine it later to be sure nothing lingers."

Hastily, he finishes his scribblings and stands clear.

Kat steps away from the runes swiftly, and waits for the other to finish.

"Well, if these types are an important deature of this kingdom's history, we are in for a really enjoyable trip. In the meantime, are we heading to the stair of unimaginable doom, or whatever it was called? might as well get our doom over with..."

[Lord Skybolt]

"No, we don't plan on going down into there till tommrow anyway . We just letting Fala going in with her True Seeing Affect activated for a minute . Then she coming right back out as she is a really fast Scouter ."Alain says in aside to Kat .

ALAIN effaces the runes, first with a stick and then with sizzling conjured missiles.

The curse --or at least its written form--removed from the cellar, the party may now depart.

After leaving food and water for the dead men's horses in the barn, they group rides for the Darkling Stair...
