Conversation in Drow
Jacob smiles as he goes thorugh his list of prepared spells. As Tarlyn rests, he moves a short distance away and removes an item from his pouch, a short piece of copper wire. Concentrating, he utters arcane phrases in Draconic and moves his fingers in intricate patterns. Feeling the power of the spell flow through his, he silently thanks Lathander. He sincerely hopes his newfound friends were indeed on the same plane as he was. Here goes nothing

A voice penetrates Van's thoughts as the group decides to move forward and on into the town of Shadowdale. It is the voice of Jacob! "Van. Tarlyn and I are in the Underdark not far from the city of Menzoberranzan. Wherever you are, stay put. Now, where are you?"
OOC: The spell sending. You have 25 words or less to reply to Jacob.

Van looks around for a moment till realize that the voice is in his head!
A big smile appears to his face, but soon fades as he listens the message, he replies mentally:
"Jacob! We are on a hill near a city called Shadowdale. Maybe we will get there. Be careful and come as soon as possible!"
He turns to his companions and says:
"It's Jacob! He sends me a message with a spell. He and Tarlyn are in Underdark, near Menzoberranzan. Jacob told us to stay put but I think we should head to Shadowdale and they can try to reach us there. We are in a different plane,in the middle of nowhere, so it's better be in a city and not in wilderness. If I remember correct Tarlyn was from a city of the Underdark, but not Menzoberranzan. I hope they are ok and manage to get out of there safe and come to find us soon."
Van's glance get all of them as asks:
"So, do you agree to go to Shadowdale or you prefer stay put? I should tell Jacob where to find us."

Jacob reaches into his pouch and removes a scroll. He walks back to where Tarlyn is. He nudges the dark elf once, knowing he'd wake. Tarlyn stirred from his elvish reveille. "What do you disturb me for? I need my rest, you even said so yourself."
Jacob laughs lightly. "I'm sorry but I've a spell that can get us to Waterdeep with no interruptions, Tarlyn. And now. The rest of the party are on the outskirts of Shadowdale. I learned this through a spell. I asked them to not enter the town. This'll give us time to arrive and then we can enter Shadowdale with no problems. Agreed?"
" Fine. I hope the fellows are safe and out of harms way. Shadowdale? Well if that old sage is there, the boys could be in for a time of it! I hope they stay away from there until we arrive."
Jacob nods. "All right then, Jacob. I'll hold onto you and read the scroll, therefore casting my spell. We'll be in the basement of the Temple of Lathander in Waterdeep where I've created a small sanctuary for this spell. From there I'll cast a teleport spell to the outskirts of Shadowdale and we can then meet up with the others. Sound like a plan?"
Tarlyn merely nods at Jacob. Jacob nods back and begins his spellcasting. Draconic phrases fill the air as Jacob's fingers move in very odd patterns as he grabs hold of Tarlyn's arm. The air shimmers with Divine magic. A blue aura surrounds both Jacob and Tarlyn. Then the aura fades into nothingness as both drow disappear. Jacob and Tarlyn reappear in a small 10x10x10 room. Only a bed and of course an altar are there. Jacob smiles at Tarlyn. "This is a place of refuge in times of need, I've planned, but never used until now, Tarlyn. I have 4 children. This is a place of refuge I thought I might need for myself or them. I'll cast teleport to Shadowdale now, so hold on to me. Tarlyn nods to Jacob and holds onto his arm.
Jacob registers the hand on his arm , even as he begins casting his teleport spell. "Western hill overlooking the town of Shadowdale" Jacob utters as the spell is cast.

As the group decides what to do, a flash of light illuminates the hill overlooking the town and yourselves. Once the flash dissipates, you can see two very familiar forms, those of Jacob and Tarlyn. Both seem somewhat disoriented at the moment.

William sees the two Drow appear and tucks his pistol back into his belt. He stares at them expressionless, though he seems tense all over. One thought repeats itself over and over in his head. "This is not happening. This is not happening. This is not happening..."
His shaking hand reaches into his coat pocket and produces his old familiar rum flask, which he promptly untwists the screw cap and drains down his greedy parched throat. Wiping at his mouth with the back of one hand, the other fumbles repeatedly while attempting to stow the now empty flask back inside his coat pocket, Finally getting frustrated enough, he lets the flask fall to the ground, watching it tumble through the air before briefly jostling itself into a position of rest. After a moment he clears his throat and looks up at the group, and with a croaking voice says, "This is not happening."

Cornelius is relieved to see the two dark elves.
''Ah! I'm glad you found us. So, do either of you know much about this place?''

Jacob looks to Cornelius. He has a big smile. "I most definitely know this town. I spent many years here as a matter of fact. So let's go to the Old Skull Inn and get rooms. Then we can decide what we want to do with ourselves. Nice to see you all are well."
Tarlyn smiles a little, but still looks weak from his previous ordeal. "Nice to see you all as well. I never thought I'd set foot in Shadowdale, least of all be back here, my homeland. I'll get a good night's rest at this Inn Jacob speaks of."
Jacob leads you into the town of Shadowdale. As he does, he speaks "The town of Shadowdale consists mainly of farms and the forests behind them, really. There are over ten thousand people living in the immediate area. It is also the home of the most famous mage in all the lands, Elminster! They call him the Sage of Shadowdale. I've heard him tell he almost married a drowess once! He is full of tales. He travels the world and other worlds and is more often away than here. Ah we've arrived."
Before you stands a nice looking Inn. As you enter you see the dining area and a fireplace. Not many patrons are in and a man you can only presume is the Innkeeper is behind a bar, wiping glasses and whistling a happy tune. He appears to be in his early fourties with a greyish beard and salt and pepper hair. He looks up from his glasses and greets you. "G'day 'n' well met. Might I get ye a glass of something or a meal perhaps?"
"Garth! Don't tell me you've forgotten about me already? Now, now that's no way to be with your favorite dark one, is it?" Jacob suddenly appears as he is as a drow!
"Jacob? Ye mangy dog! Where ya been these past few years?" he moves around the bar and bearhugs the drow. Then he lets him down and smiles. "So ye got some new friends I see. Don't be shy now! Introduce yeselves! I'm Garth. Just that. I own this here Inn, yasee. Your all welcome here if you're friends of Jacob. Free meal fer ye all and drinks 'r' on me!" He tuns to go back to the bar then turns back to you "Oh JAcob ye better be going to see your mum. She'll be happy to see you. Bryzyne is off traveling with her pal Thoron in some Dragon city." He now goes back behind the bar and pushes the door there. Jacob leads you to a table and you all sit. Garth can be heard humming and what seems to be chopping of vegetables and boiling water.
"Sorry about Garth. He's known me since I was a little dark elf. I wonder how he never ages, probably due to the fact that Elminster likes the food here and the ale! Oh well. As he said I should go visit my mother. You're all welcome to come with me. It's not that far, mostly a day's trek on foot. It's in the forest. Priestesses of Eilistraee are there. She is what is considered to be the Head of this particular Temple. She found me when I was but a baby and took me in as her own. I've an older sister Bryzyne as well. I also have children who live in Waterdeep. Enough of me."
A boy of about eight or nine, you think, leaves the table he was at and walks over to yours. He looks directly at Jacob with awe and what looks to be like admiration. Or is it fear. "I've ne'er seen a drow before, Mister. I did hear of you though. Me Dad used to tell me tales of you and what ye done for the folk here with your Temple. It's too bad them Zhents burnt it down 'n' killed yer wife. Would you mind if I joined you? I run little errands for Garth and sleep in the stable. I'm Ort Borop by the way. Me parents died a few years ago 'n' Garth took me in." He doesn't wait for an answer and takes a seat next to Jacob, between both dark elves as a matter of fact as Tarlyn is sitting or was sitting next to Jacob?
"Hi. I'm Tarlyn Xarran. Well met, Ort Borop." He leans down to the boy and whispers in his ear "Now I know that chair wasn't there before, Ort. Did you do that?"
The boy blushes furiously and looks down. "Yes. Yes sir I wanted to sit between the both of you so the chair was there. It happens sometimes. Sorry if I upset you, sir."
"It's ok Ort. He isn't upset, merely asking a question. You're welcome to our table. Guys, introduce yourselves to Ort!"
Tarlyn smiles a little, but still looks weak from his previous ordeal. "Nice to see you all as well. I never thought I'd set foot in Shadowdale, least of all be back here, my homeland. I'll get a good night's rest at this Inn Jacob speaks of."

Van listens the Jacob's story, he realizes that it's the first time the dark elf talked about his family. As Ort said what happened to Jacob's wife, the wizard gives a look of sympathy to the drow. The he says:

''Pleased to meet you, Ort.''
Cornelius has folded his blanet into a neat square and set it down on his chair as a cushion. He takes a seat and unrolls a map in front of himself.
''So, Jacob., I'm given to understand we are very far from Kartakass- even on the far side of the Mists themselves, in another world, even. If this is so, we'd best discuss how we are to get back home! I wouldn't mind exploring this place, but we have a mission waiting for us back in Kartakass. We need to find the missing men.''

"I'm afraid it's not as simple as that, Cornelius. The mists carried both Tarlyn and I to your lands. I doubt we could teleport there, to be honest. I can name on my hand a few mages who might be able to help us and that list includes Elminster. Otherswise our choices are to travel to Waterdeep and try to get an audience with Khelben Blackstaff. Or to Silverymoon and Lady Alustriel. One other I can think of, but I'd rather not think of that eventuality. I've been told by Elminster of a very powerful mage living in Menzoberranzan by the name of Gromph Baenre. Let's not think of that possibility for the moment. There might be other people knowledgeable in nthe ways of getting to your land, but I don't know of them.
So we have two options before us. Go to Elminster's tower and see if he will see us. Or go to Waterdeep and try to see Khelben Blackstaff. I say we go see Elminster first. Then if that fails, go to Waterdeep."
Ort's eyes go real big at the mention of Elminster. "You mean you're gonna go see Elminster?? Wow! Can I come with you? Please, please, please, please! I promise I won't get into any trouble. Harper's honor!" Though he says that he's crossing his fingers behind his back but noone is obviously paying attention. Boys will be boys they say. Ort has a twinkle in his eye as he thinks about the famed sage of Shadowdale.
"I'm in agreement with Jacob. I've only heard of Elminster myself. I do know of anothere, but I seriously doubt we should go that route. His name is Manshoon and he is from the city of Zhentil Keep. Leader of the Black network, the Zhentarim. I'd rather we don't try to see him at all. I am in agreement with Jacob's idea. Ort you can come eith us as long as you don't embarass us."
"Thanks mister elf!" Ort hugs Tarlyn and sits back down.

Van turns then to Ort and says:
"How you want so much to meet Elminister? And since you live here why you haven't just gone to his tower to meet him?"

Cornelius puts in-
''Well, it seems to me we should indeed visit this Sage of Shadowdale first. We can always try the other options if that doesn't pan out, just as you say. Oh, and why not take Ort with us? Surely this Elminster fellow won't object?''
