We can explore the rest of it using the SOP we developed. That way, we may get a chunk of mapping and description in one of two long posts...

I dunno about the rest of you guys, but my plan is to see if Ping will cough up any interesting info, and then head out for the dungeon.

Re: Back to Basics OOC
Could I get that SOP written out for me since I've missed a few things? Also are we actually going to wait another day before heading back there? I was going to post Arnulf being impatient about waiting for tomorrow since we are "burning daylight." But whatever the plan is, let me know

ewancummins wrote:SOP for the dungeon crawl-
Seemingly empty room or dungeon area/hall/stairwell/etc.
• Sara always checks ahead of party for traps/hazards inside the room/hall with a take 20 search.
• Isidar moves near her and takes 20 to search for unusual stonework, stone traps, pits, slopes, sliding walls, etc. (stonecunning bonus applies)
• Dalorna watches with a take 20 on a spot check (bonus from familiar applies)
• Arnulf takes 20 on a listen check.
• Alia takes 20 on a listen check.
• Professor Huln takes 20 on a spot check.
• The multiple spot checks are ‘aimed’ in different directions, so that all angles and entrances are covered.
- Note- these actions overlap as much as possible, so that time is not wasted, and PCs busy searching, opening, and so on are not left unguarded.
Locked doors
• If she finds no traps, then Sara takes 20 to open.
Stuck door without any sign of traps/hazards
• Battered or pried open with a take 20 STR check from the strongest PC. If necessary, other PCs will actually roll STR checks, so that they may aid another and provide a bonus to the roll.
Traps
• If a trap is found, Sara will take 20 to disable device, unless circumstances to do not permit her to safely and carefully do so (monsters present, fire, other obvious danger, etc.)
Light-
• Dalorna and Professor Huln both carry light sources.
Marching order (subject to modification based on current tactical situation, space/area, and so on)
• Front rank: Sara and Isidar
• Middle rank Dalorna and Arnulf
• Rear rank Professor and Alia
Mapping- Dalorna takes 10 on a craft(drawing) check to add to the map after each room/hall. I request that the DM simply post additional/edxpanded map images as we go, whether on graph paper of hand-drawn on blank paper. This should also speed up play and reduce unnecessary confusion.
(In tabletop, we might see a battlemat, but that's not really an option here.)

Substitute take 10 or DM roll as necessary.

Re: Back to Basics OOC
Definately an interesting way to do it. Not sure i'd allow it at a gaming table but here where it takes so long to get anything done online, yeah I can almost see that. I may share this with my group so they can come up with their own SOP, though we hardly do the take 10 or take 20. xD

Re: Back to Basics OOC
The game system was designed for tabletop, realtime play. It tends to get slow and clunky when you try to use it to run a dungeon crawl (of complex combat) in play by post. Things like our SOP may help speed up play. YMMV, of course.

It's slow because a lot of folks involved--including the DM--have been busy, but it's still running.

Re: Back to Basics OOC
Indeed, I am hopeful one day soon it will pick up. Yeah Running into a bit of slowness in my first one held by me for my group. Just to entertain us during the inbetween time during the week.
Currently have someone I talk with every day, and he plays video games with me often enough that it's been 13 days. xD I'm not sure if I just continue on without him. xD

I second this. I don't want to hang around too long with Ping, since there is much dungeon to explore
