Re: Javenloft
"Just what IS this thing?" asked Felix while examining the glowing rock.
Re: Javenloft
The Thing? Please elaborate if we are going to help you we need as much info as possible. It's okay Grim says as he gives Laura a reassuring pat on the back. There has to be more than that. Every little bit helps
Re: Javenloft
Another portion of ale filled fog in his head began to fade gradually, and Null came, somewhat, back to his senses. What he had just done, and might have done, hit him square in the chest. No...no, those times are passed. I'm a better man. I'm in control, again. Deep breaths. Deep breaths. Facing Felix and Laura, a mask of remembered agony stretched over his face and he quickly turned away from them so as to hide his anguish. Keeping his voice calm, Null turned his head in Felix's direction and said, "I need a moment to myself. It seems my emotions are not my own and I wish to rectify this. If you need anything, I will be right outside the tent." Taking slow deep breaths, Null paced and counted his walk outside of the tent in order to remove himself from the situation at hand.
As he pulled back the tent flap and gazed around the clearing before him, the archer noticed a substantially sized tree not a few yards away, but still with a big enough space around it that anyone approaching would give him notice. Placing a hand softly against the bark of the tree, Null examined the brown coating and how its grain swept both upward and down. Imagining the weave reaching towards the sky, the archer brought his arms up, tilted his head back, and ran himself through the mental and physical exercises his mother had taught him so long ago.
Let the Moon rise and guard your dreams. Let the Stars cloak the Moon and shroud you from grasping eyes. Let the Moon set and renew your awaken for the dawn to come...

"I don't know. It's a... spirit. An energy? It doesn't think like us. It isn't like us. I don't think it even understands us. I can't tell you what it's like. It's just this horrible, intruding thing. Sometimes, when I'm tired, or if I'm in danger, it comes out, but it's alien, it doesn't react the way it should. And it leaves me with this horrible taste in my mind."GrimQuest wrote:The Thing? Please elaborate if we are going to help you we need as much info as possible. Re: Javenloft
After having sent out his senses magically he has a growing head ache ever since he had reached out mentally. Detecting magic always had that sort of consequence. You never knew how hard an aura would hit you until you started in that direction. Just like opening a door to blinding sunlight when you've been in the dark for hours.
"Well whatever it is..." said Felix pulling his gaze from the pebble in his hand. "It seemed to help us against the crow. Perhaps it doesn't like our enemies either and if it's linked to you maybe it doesn't like us because it sees itself as 'protecting' you. Wouldn't be the first time I've heard of strange creatures protecting Innocents. Supposibly a creature called a 'Grey Render' has been known to protect people, villagers or things. Though from the brief glance I got, I'm sure it was no Grey Render.... though I've not seen one in real life so who's to say?"
'Perhaps it isn't the time to be pulling out the academics eh Felix? Well hopefully that make her feel better but from the look on Laura's face I doubt it,' Thought Felix as he rubbed his temple slightly.

Having made sure that Antonia was taken care of and resting comfortably and having heard most of everything that transpired. Kamose walks over and tries expanding his senses toward the stone. He wouldn't risk any of his other friends to this thing.
Laura, I sense something of the ethereal realm coming from the stone. Have you considered, perhaps, this creature isn't evil? From what you said, it comes out when you are in danger. That doesn't seem evil to me. I know about being haunted by things that are horrifying and I've even seen good and helpful creatures as well. I'm not saying it isn't intrusive or that it feels great but it seems like it wants you to live. Perhaps, It doesn't like this situation it's in either but is doing the best it can with what happened. It's kinda like what you've done with the situation you were dealt, it's kinda what I've done with my situation. We do the best we can and hope it's good enough........
Kamose is starting to feel the tears build up behind his eyes, he lost a great many friends and this conversation with Laura may have helped him come to a catharsis about his dead friends more than it may have helped her. He just hopes she takes something of value from what he said. Maybe he can help her like she just helped him.

Felix puts a hand on Kamose's shoulder for a moment and speaks in elven. "Time heals wounds both physical and mental."

Re: Javenloft
"Would you not speak in Elvish when you're talking to me please? It's incredibly rude when you know I can't understand you. And look, you've upset him!"
Laura tried to calm her emotions enough to speak civilly to Kamose. "Kamose, I understand what you're trying to say. But you haven't felt this thing's mind! It's probably not evil - I don't think it is human enough to understand the concepts. I have seen it do awful things - it tore a pair of ruffians to pieces - literally to pieces - in Martira Bay. That was when I knew I had to leave. It may not be evil, but it doesn't intend us good either. It's alien. There are parasites that live in the Sea of Sorrows that will defend their host some of the time, but that doesn't stop them being parasites."
"I don't care what this thing is, or what it intends. I just want it gone so I can go home."

You're right, I haven't felt it. Maybe I can figure out a way to communicate with it though. I have a way with things from the ethereal. I could try touching the stone as well. Maybe it will allow me to talk with it, I'd be willing to try, If you'd like?Ryan Naylor wrote:"Would you not speak in Elvish when you're talking to me please? Kamose wipes the tears away and takes a very satisfying breath and lets it out. Null, I'm limited in my spell casting but maybe you could ask for a spell of Ethereal trasference to then be cast upon me. As I understand religous spells, you have to pray for them. I don't, new spells just sort of reveal themselves to me. Kamose realizes that Null probably has nothing like what he's asking for at the ready, so it might take another day.

Re: Javenloft
Felix only smirks a slyly at Laura's comment before speaking in the plain tongue. "It is said that Elves cannot lie in their native tongue. The sentence was meant for my friend and not you," said Felix as he squeezed Kamose's shoulder tightly for a brief moment and let go. His smile fades as Laura reveals more.
"Sounds like those 'ruffians' got what they deserved," he replied flatly. He remembered the type, and in fact he'd wager good money that they had been similar to Dimmer's land lord. A momentary scowl passed his face before returning to the topic at hand. "Can you control it? Have you at least TRIED speaking or communicating with it? I know you must be frightened and that's probably why it only comes out in times of dire need, however something that's treated like an animal will react like an animal. Just watch a caged person's personality change..."
Felix remembered the cells back in Il Aluk and shivered for half a moment. The smell of grime and that cold stone feeling that you could never get warm, as if your very bones was made of cold. Yes he was quite glad not to be locked up in there any more.

To All
Amidst all the drama, you barely even noticed the absence of Anselm and Obregg, who are just now entering the tent... "What did we miss?.", cries Anselm... Obregg runs back outside and begins vomiting...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Millicent appears to be frozen with fear... She hasn't even put out her candle, despite the overabundance of magical light illuminating the entire tent and beyond... Not her normal outspoken self since entering the Equaar camp, she now she appears legitimately frightened as she stares at Laura....

Felix quirks an eye brow not understanding what's wrong with Obergg. "Hey Anselm, what's wrong with Obergg did he injest too much of Grim's brew?"Nemesio wrote:To All

Re: Javenloft
“Perhaps you should see to your wife while I look after Obergg. She’s starting to look a bit pale…” said Felix as he stepped out of the tent and found Obergg. He put his hand to the back giving a soft pat to his back. “Hey, how you holding up Obergg? Seems the Vistani had a bit to share that somehow I’m from here though I remember almost nothing…”
“It’s…. troubling not to know who you are.”
