I also thought the curse that affected the whole bloodline was a bit extreme but then i went back a made a few tweaks in the background and it all came together.

What if Edmund Hiregaard was Romir's father. he comitts his experments that create the first Malken and Desmond (the last name escapes me) the half-golem. racked by guilt over what he has done to Desmond he finds solace in Romir's mother, until Malken's head rises again and she is forced to kill him in self defence. the death is hushed up and soon after Romir's mother gives birth to him. The twist is that Edmund's experiments left the taint of Malken within the bloodline and all the curse by Romir's wife really did is wake it up that first time and then the genie can't be put back into the bottle after it and the 'New' Malken grows with time, which is why each new malken is different, its based on the memories and gentics of the current host not the curse which only activates the first time and each new host

FWIW, I reconciled the Desmond la Rouche tale IMC, simply by assuming that both he and Edmund are wrong in thinking that Edmond's evil alter-ego is Malken. In my games, Edmund Hiregaard had been trying to free himself of the Hiregaards' hereditary madness (see LotB), and had been using holistic purifiers (VRA p. 70) to try to accomplish this. The true Malken (i.e. Tristen's other self) learned of his experiments, worried Tristen might try the same thing, and decided to sabotage Edmund's work by contaminating the purifiers with his own evil. When Edmund used the tainted purifier, it turned him into a near-duplicate of Malken, and the real Malken slyly arranged things so everyone involved -- Edmund included -- would think that this phony "Malken" was the real deal, thus deflecting both his enemies in law enforcement and rivals in the criminal underworld onto a decoy.

When Edmund's evil alter-ego harmed Desmond, and his good side told the tale of how he was actually "Malken", Edmund Hiregaard was merely relating the truth as he understood it, i.e. as the darklord had led him to believe. As Edmund is now addicted to the contaminated purifier, his evil side makes sure to infuse every new batch of it that he creates with evil, therefore perpetuating the cycle and keeping Edmund wrongly convinced that he's the notorious Malken.
