REESE, EAVESDROPPING ON HIS BOSS AND 'LADY' DOMINICA

Unheard and unseen by Roald and Dominica, the young man crouches just around the corner of the building.

What is that stupid woman rambling about now? She wants to find an inn? She's settled into her room, for crying out loud! This inn doesn't meet her lofty standards, maybe. I sure hope the Boss slaps her silly. He must be letting her get away with this shit 'cause he wants to tumble her. Can't blame him for that...

Dominica doesn't have to look far to find the inn outside which she is standing, the very same one that she has settled into already...

She notices another, larger and fancier, boarding house across the street.

CAER HAES

Filber has no trouble finding Braedonnal, nor any difficulty in persuading the elf to return with him to the duke's chambers...

CITY WATCH HEADQUARTERS

Rennault Ghonallison wakes to find a stack of parchments slipped under his nose, still smelling of fresh ink.Someone has draped a thick quilt over his back. Steam rises from under the lip of a covered stein placed just far enough from him that he wouldn't knock if over by stretching as he gets up.
A candle burns at one corner of the desk, wax puddled around its base.

Dietric murmurs to the horses, holding their reins at the far end of the stony gulley.

He falls silent, cupping an ear and turning his head as if listening for the approach of someone or something yet unseen...

Filbert makes sure that nobody is eavesdropping and at the roon are only Devlin, Braedonnal and himself. Then says:

"All clear Your Grace, nobody seem to be around."

"That is fine by me. Perhaps if we ask inside the Inn where we might find a magical healer, it might help. If anyone asks, we are family."

Varrus the Ethical wrote:"Yes, one big happy family," Roald says with a smile.
Dominica enters the Inn, without waiting to see if Roald or Reese follow. She doesn't acknowledge his comment either way. She walks over to the Innkeeper or barkeep. "Pardon me, might I have a word with you? I have a query you might be able to answer, but I do not wish it be known all over the establishment."

CITY WATCH HQ

Rennault wakes and almost instinctively reaches for the mug. Normally the sort of man to eschew creature comforts, the last few days have exhausted him so that the stein was welcome. Probably Gilly again. A sentimental man, the sergeant, but a good one to have in a scrap. And in a siege, so it would seem.

The last few days had been the demons' own business. His men had poured boiling-hot oil onto the attackers as they came. And when the next wave had arrived, his flaming arrows had lit the spilled oil, turning spots of the battlefield orange with flame and black with the smoke of charred Alamians.

He smiles, remembering.

Soon, his senses are gathered enough to check the parchments. "Bloody hell...new orders?" He picks them up to examine the parchment.
"You said I killed you--haunt me, then!...Be with me always--take any form--drive me mad! only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you!” -Wuthering Heights

"Aye, why don' yeh go do yer scoutin'," Cormac agrees, creeping over to his horse. "We'll see to the rider. Meet back here when it's done, yeah?"

He joins with Dietric presuming Gunnar agrees, turning and trying to lead the horses silently in the direction the rider is coming from.
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

Dominica and Roald hear a wet splattering sound from around the corner of the inn.

Reese appears, tugging his breeches.

"Sorry, I missed that. Had to drain my wineskin."

He looks at Dominia and offers a slight shrug.
"You said something about spying a priest, my lady? Where?"

He looks up and down the street.

"We'll ask inside where to find one, Reese, instead of walking around with no clue."

She heads inside and finds the Innkeeper to ask just that.
