I... play a fighter. :)
Is there a kit for them to have some magical powers; No need to be fighter-mages or to even cast spells. A kit that has something more special than a choice of weapons and skills.

5d4 x10 for fighter.

NWPs from warrior and general groups at normal cost.

Kits vary. But for the most part, either your scores don't work or you probably would not wish to play with the hindrance (the savage gets a power, but cannot wear armor without suffering penalties).

One possibility for a fighter using 'magic' is to specialize in the arquebus. In this edition, the default for gunpowder is that it a quasi-magical substance.
I would allow a specialist harquebusier to get a saving throw to avoid any injury from accidents/fumbles with his boom stick, in combat.

Another possibility is to sink two slots into Spellcraft. That won't actually grant him spellcasting powers, but it would give him a basic grasp of how magic works.

A third possibility would be to play a demihuman. That could give him some unusual abilities. Gnomes for example, can spend a slot to be able to communicate with burrowing mammals. Not limited by times per day.

Character's name is Damien Thomas. I don't think he'd outright let you know he has been a thief in the past, but you'd see that he is fairly helpful willing to do anything asked of him, and a bit sparing with his coinage, often giving others who are less fortunate a few coins. Anyone that's watched his nightly ritual will see that he buries a coin in the ground offering it as a prayer to the Fleeting maiden. Probably an unusual form of worship. He also likes playing cards, and has a small deck that he keeps with him to pull out and play numerous sorts of games. A prolonged interaction would probably show that he isn't the smartest of the bunch being lower than average intelligence but he seems to know enough to get by, sometimes faking understanding.

Fake it until you make it.

Do we have wagons and horses? Damien will offer to pay the tax to get into the city if anyone needs it. I have an extra 22 gold left over since I didn't know what to buy/could decide on other things.

Eggs-sack-ly.

Edit: are we allowed to post in Povero now or that was just the introduction part? :)

You can post now, but it might be best to first us the OOC and/or the PM system to work out the links between characters and the party's basic plan of action.

The published adventure I am running itself includes some preset stuff, naturally enough. But the set up is not railroad-y.
So in order for there to be some necessary party cohesion, I would like you guys to have a basic idea of who the other characters are and why you have set off for the big city all together.

Gotcha. I'm going for the.... trying to leave a bit of trouble behind in his past, and found the group of good and amenable sort of people. (I hope).

Tom has left his small town hoping to find a better luck at the next one which means get more money...And for sure he has had some troubles at their hometown since he was trying too hard to make a name as the one who you go to get information from or to find someone. Some people just don't like to be found or have private information leaked...

Gem (his labrador) needs to pay taxes? Tom is broke!!!

No tax on dogs. Unless maybe you are carting in gods by dog cart or sled, which would be strange.

No no, Gem is trained but Tom doesn't use him to carry stuff.

Since Damien is a thief too we can be all from the same city.

Can you tell me a name of a small town nearby Ewan. One that Tom and Gertie can come from?

Make one up. Anything vaguely Western would work.

If I am not mistaken "Povero" is Italian for "poor." Is that right?
It'd be ironic, as the city is prosperous. ;)
But I worked in a background that includes the city's early days as a poor fishing village. Indeed, I suspect Elrod had something similiar in mind.

Some in this adventure and the one from which I took Ferrantio resemble Italian names, but also English, French, possibly German, etc. So don't worry about adhering closely to any particular real world nomenclature. And feel free to alter spelling, use archaic conventions, or insert fantasy names.

Sure sounds fine. I made up that Damien skipped town after stealing from a particularly vengeful Count named Arnault. Stealing valuable old coins and giving them to some people he knew down on their luck. Well the count wanted to find him by having anyone with his coins selling them at pawn shops to be picked up and black mailed into telling him where they got his coins. Or rather.... who they got them from. Well only takes a gang of thugs showing up at your place once before you want to skip town, and lay low for any associated heat. (Not sure this will matter but anyone who knows the thieve politics of the place we are from might know of Damien's antics or at least someone was bold enough to steal from a count.) Not sure it will come up in play. Guess we'll see. :)

I like it.

Coin collector count.
