Archedius looks back at the illithid, "If you can speak, tell us anything you can that might help us against Deltherin. If you do so, I will end your suffering and give you vengeance against him."

Archedius reaches out and touches its hand reassuringly through the bars.

"I will visit upon him terror and pain tenfold what he's done to you, just tell us what you can."

He waits for a response.

in the lab-

The illithid moves, but not much. Its eyes focus on Archedius. Its facial tentacles curl upward and tap the edge of the bizarre helmetlike device strapped and bolted to its head. The tentacles droop, then reach up again and tap the device.

the rescue party-

With Threan taking the lead, the rescue party quickly makes its way through the deserted back alleys and tunnels of the settlement.

Soon enough, you all are standing at the western edge of town, facing a dirt wagon road that heads up the slope towards Blackpillars, Deltherin's abode. The wizard's manse is about a quarter mile away, across mostly open country. Only a few rock piles and gnarled, low trees spot the up- sloping plain the runs right up to the cliffs.

Moving down the road, you can see lights springing into life through the windows of the mansion.

"Uh oh," says Blaise. "Either Delthrin has returned or there are some near-sighted specters in his mansion. If Ino and the others are in there, they'll be in trouble soon. Let's move quickly - but please, don't approach any entrance until I've had a chance to examine the area."

OOC: Once we get within 60 feet of the entrance, Blaise will pause to give the area a thorough detect magic scan.

Inovidil looks at the illithid and the helmetlike device at his head.

"Well yes, I can do it. Step back Archedius please."

Always hidden Inovidil concentrates on the helmet.

OOC> Unseen servant.

Archedius steps back and waits for the device to be removed.

the laboratory

Ino summons her unseen servant and commands it to remove the helmet device. Latches and buckles come undone, bolts unscrew from the illithid's flesh, and the helmet begins to come loose...

The door on the other side of the room flies open. A half dozen gaunt, grey skinned humanoids rush into the room, with their long tongues hanging out like those of hounds and their taloned hands raised high. Behind these ghoulish figures stands Deltherin the Deadmaster, a wand upraised in his right hand.

The magus takes one look at what's happening inside the cage and screams-

''NO! YOU FOOLS! DON'T-''

In that instant, the mind flayer twists its head to face the doorway.

Deltherin gasps and reels backward, stunned by some unseen force.

His six minions, seemingly unfazed by whatever has affected their master, rush forward to attack the party!

Archedius turns his head to the illithid and shouts, "Keep him stunned!" "Ino, try to grab Deltherin!"

Archedius draws forth a dart and readies to throw it at the nearest minion

The rescue party has crossed the field, moved over a fence, along a narrow footpath near the cliffs' edge, and have at last come near to Deltherin's doorstep. Before anyone actually mounts the stairs leading to the verandah and the entry hall, Blaise checks the area for magic.

the Old Shell-

Alain arrives at his inn an hour past midnight. His friends are absent, save Jamethon Moorkoft, who sits near the hearth, chatting softly with the old blind singer [ the one who followed the party down from the North]. The only other people present are one of the widow's sons , who snoozes behind the bar; and six men sit gathered a table near the fire, who are eating late night meals. These other fellows are dressed as laborers or tradesmen.

Inovidil doesn't wait Archedius to repeat himself twice. Always as troll she makes her way towards the stunned necromancer and grapples him as better as she can trying at the same time to close his mouth so he cannot cast spells.

Blaise says as he looks around, "Hmm, no surprises here -- there's some spell in effect around the doors and all the windows that I can see. They're probably alarmed."

He looks at his companions. "At this point, Deltrin already knows he has intruders inside," he says. "One more alarm may not make a difference. Shana, my dear, any chance you can look to see if the door or one of the windows is trapped, too?" He shrugs apologetically at Threan and Ironheart. "Sorry, don't mean to exclude you two -- I just don't know what your talents are. Well, I have a good sense of what his talents are..." He nods at Ironheart. "Anything you can do to help, I appreciate."

Entering the Inn, Alain shrugs off a bit of the evening chill, thankful to finally arrive at a place with a fire in the hearth. He notes Jamethon's presence and makes his way to the bar keep and orders a glass a hot mulled wine.
Taking a sip and nodding appreciatively to the bar keep, he leaves a few coin with tip and makes his way to Jamethon's table. He sits down without so much as a word but a slight nod to Jamethon.

the Old Shell-

Jamethon greets Alain as the writer takes a seat at the table,

'' Welcome back, Alain. Care for some cold porridge? ''

The ex-priest indicates a bowl on the table before him.
