"Did someone try ter eat yer toe? Looks like they almost succeeded at it too. Not a very meaty part of the body, mind you. I'd of tried ta eat yer leg or arm. Hmmm, wonder what human meat tastes like? Anyhow, you all seem to know each other an I only really know this Dofur here as we met outside. I just met Benn here but you I don't know either of. I be Thora, Thora Darkender. Eldest daughter of the Darkender clan an searchin' for me brother Norzak."

Dorgio slaps his palm to his forehead. "I am sorry, it is Jon. He tries to avoid looking at Evie and fails. "We'll be explaining later."

He squints at the dwarf, thinking she looks familiar. "It is not bad, but walking is a litt---"

"Norzak?"

"I am Dorgio. After I am seeing to Charlotte, let us be talking."

Evie, who has just come back into the room, looks back and forth between Jon and Dorgio, with a puzzled look on her face.

Denys shakes his head in disbelief.

''Jon? My word, but you have grown, young man! Why, you look to be nineteen years old if you look a day past twelve."

Jon flashes a beaming smile to Evie and then nods deferentially to her father.

''Yes, we'll explain later. I've come to help protect you from the evil-doers."

Galandel is around the back yard of the Manor now, looking for any clues he can find. He has Baelmus watching the front the of the house from the shadows to alert him of any coming to the house. Galandel makes a through inspection of the area to insure that there is no one else there.

Galandel's search doesn't uncover any hidden foes, but the elf does find several pairs of bootprints leading from a spot near the five foot high stone wall at the far edge of the yard to an open window in the rear of the house. Looking through the window, the elf can see a shadowy room partly filled with crates, barrels, and chests. Within the storeroom a door hangs open, facing into a hallway lit by candles or perhaps a lamp.

"Mein Gott, Dorgio, it looks like you're the one who is needing the doctor," he goes to offer the cleric an arm and escorts him to Charlotte's side. "We were attacked by some brigands," he announces to the room, "They seemed to have been hired to kidnap Evie and Denys. They didn't expect to see myself or our elven friend Galandel waiting for them, and got a nasty surprise for their troubles. These two are just thugs. They gave me a name and location for their crew's boss, but didn't know who hired them for the abduction in the first place."

He grimaces towards the two Sancerres. "Unfortunately, Herr Sancerre, we seem to bring you no shortage of misfortune when we are around."
"Of course," Benn mutters, "It would be a damned shame if we ever knew what the hell was actually going on."

Dofur will silently bow to the newcomers, his face still pale from the sight of the torture.
He will then quickly retire to smoke a pipe outside, and to swallow his anger about Thora.

Thora frowns at Dofur's odd reaction, then shrugs. Walking over to the young lady Evie, she smiles reassuringly at her. "Uh, listen miss. I be really sorry bout me actions. Their friends did this to me and riled up me blood a lil. I sometimes tend to get carried away when I gets attacked and near burnt if ye can see me injuries. I would juss like ter apologize for me actions ma'am. If I offended ya I is sorry. We did obtain important information from them, however. I will tell you what. I am a dwarven artisan. If you anything you can think of you may like, I am pretty sure I can make it for you. Just let me know when you think of something you might like. I crafted these two tankards here." Thora removes them from her belongings and shows both to Evie. "With this information we now can go find those responsible and have them pay for their crimes against you and yours."

Turning to Mr Sancerre she says "I presume you are Denys Sancerre? From what I have learned since I been in Pont A Museau, Norzak was associated with you or worked for you? Hmmm, were some 'o these peoples his associates?"

Evie accepts Thora's apology.

''You must be Norzak's sister, for you seem so very much like him in speech and manners."

She looks over the two tankards.

''Ah, very nice workmanship."

Denys answers the female dwarf with a simple-

''Norzak was a friend. So are these men.''

Turning to Benn, the merchant says-

''They came for my daughter and for me- this isn't your fault, Benn. The would-be kidnappers don't seem to have known that you'd be here for dinner. In fact, Evangeline and I would most probably be stuffed in that carriage even now, rolling back to this fellow Clothard's club, if it weren't for your fortuitous presence at my home tonight! I ought to thank my lucky stars that you were here. ''

"If you all are amenable, I would dearly like to go show this Clothard my type 'o hospitailty.
I don't think we should wait too long, or maybe better yet let 'em think we ain't comin' an pay em a visit in a
day or two. They won't be expectin' that I bet."

The handsome and athletic young man with the ginger hair (Jon) says-

''Yes. Norzak's sister is right. We should go now, or very soon. The villains will be off-balance. If we give them too much advance warning, too much time to prepare, they may escape or they may gather re-enforcments.''

"If you think I am looking bad, you should be seeing the rat demon. Actually we might want to be looking out for it; it escaped before I could be finishing it off."

He kneels to examine Charlotte. "The main wound is closed. I can be treating that burn." He begins applying a salve. "You said they weren't expecting you, Benn?" He frowns. "I was thinking our attacks had been connected, some effort to be striking us when we were separated. But these attacks, maybe they are coincidence. Is our luck really that bad?"

He finishes bandaging the burns and swabs the lesser scratches with a disinfecting poultice. As he checks her for any other injuries he suddenly stops, and looks at Benn with an arched eyebrow.

"I . . . am seeing no other injuries."

It was true enough.

A knock on the door-

One of the servants answers the door. Six green-coated gendarmes enter the house.

Denys answers their questions. He has a private conversation with the captain of the gendarmes.
Soon the gendarmes have packed the two thugs into their prison-cart.

Denys returns to the room and informs your party-

''The gendarmes will raid Clothard's place at midnight. They have given permission for you fellows to accompany them , if you like. I will stay here with my daughter and six men assigned as a protection detail."

Galandel watches the window, no doubt this is how those humans entered the back of the house unseen. He waits and watches for a few minutes, he isn't sure if the candle light or lamp light is a person coming to check out the opened door or if it just a lit hallway. Using the empathic link that connects him and Baelmus he sends a sense of urgency across to bring his wolf companion to him.

If it turns out just to be a lit hallway, Galandel will go back into the house through the back door with Baelmus following behind him. He stalks through the rooms silently looking for Benn and the others.
