For Ravenloft to truly function as an atmospheric setting (and be 1), that is not an artificial arcade-like jump into the next region and be confused again, the there would be no border of mist and a fully political landscape aka Westeros (the setting sucks in my opinion except for the plots within plots that Martin can write) but split into different countries/domains (or made into truly one country with internal conflicts and issues) with nobility caste and other castes and social tiers. Creating a functional clockwork of interaction among the various factions that can facilitate Gothic horror and mystery within a framework of frequent civil war or war clashes.

Many other changes would be needed, as in hiding the supernatural beneath veils of perception and beliefs and having the entire Ravenloft realm (call this Gravenia :azalin: for now) being a medieval superstitious but at the same time denying many supernatural things or demeaning them as something else.

Question rises, as to how the adventures and the deities as it is the thread topic. That would take some work but could be done.

The religions ("loner" deities and pantheons) would not be absolute mess that we have now from the add this, put that, oh also this we got in the various products but part of the fabric of the setting and would thus work harmoniously to contribute to the atmosphere and other elements.

Not to interfere with your new homebrew inspiration, but, like, have you read the Gazetteers? Have you read anything netbook-canon?
There's plenty of lore written to make the setting more cohesive and believable, without extreme solutions like this.

I just like making new things like that from old ones, regardless if the are good or bad or average, so we end up eating our cake and eating it too since we end up with both. :mrgreen:

Well, that's a pretty cool attitude.

My fan-content philosophy is usually to try and slide between the cracks in canon rather than outright defy it. If I wanted an entire alternate interpretation of a work I'd just write my own world inspired by it (which I did. Twice.) but you do you.

The best recent dinosauric pile of manure (to put it politely) as the old bad material was from 2e (Thoughts of Darkness for example) etc, is the abysmal changes done for non-game reasons (mumbo jumbo "politics", sexualization of gaming elements, and psychopathic obsessions) such as the Victor to Viktra and the rest of the "parade". These characters and adjacent changes are absolute junk but they can just be used to for example create a "daughter" (from old fling of his youth or something else more metaphysical) of Viktor with a proper name Victoria and not the brain dead idiocy that is Viktra that has a real conflict with her father (not a lesbian or anything like that). Victoria Frankenstein might not even be her real name, but one she uses as she tries to replace and take vengeance on her father, and so on. Is she his biological daughter, a lunatic old student or other relative, is she some sort of "replicant" creature that externally looks perfectly human (maybe she will have some hidden scars in some places of her body) but internally her biology is utterly anomalous or some thoughtform taking physical form that represents part of his sinful nature. And so on.

also;

Falkovnia, the Vladeska abomination was the most lame and barren, from tyranny Vlad's domain to a survival zombie flash horror game with a protagonist "darklord" self-insert of some pitiful "writer". What we can do is just use a few females with a proper pseudonym they all share; Vladimira (or another name as we do not have to use the father's name, once is enough - Victoria for Lamordia), quadruplet sisters with other names but they are all 4 bastards of Vlad Drakov (the setting remains and there is no zombie survival flash game with not even a proper feminine form of the darklord name) he does not know he had. So the quadruplet sisters are the leaders of the resistance, to Vlad's tyranny. They pretend to be one person and play an illusory game of resistance (its all deception, smoke and lights and in effect theatrics) since they have feeble actually military capacities, as in troops, and they themselves cannot fight martially but can manipulate. But they setup certain situations and use the fact they are 4 pretending to be 1 and are one at the north of the domain, one at the south and so on. But they are not benevolent though they pretend to be, as they use villagers and innocents as their expendable tools since their goal is vengeance due to hatred of their father for ignoring their existence (the mother died in poverty, begging on the streets) and their lives in poverty. They want to rule in his place and this is the real motive (they would turn on each other if they got close enough to that goal so it gets more complex). They use adventuring parties and any foreigners they find and can use as prime fodder (for their illusory resistance); and thus you can have an adventure. We preserve the tyranny domain and Vlad and enrich it. The new name or names are proper forms and not the result of a brain dead baboon high on drugs and booze. What are the 4 sisters? Cursed villains-in-waiting, operating in the shadows of a greater evil, and doomed by their own nature to never truly win.

This has no relation whatsoever to the setting's religions.
Personally, I'm done once and for all with edition arguments either way. You're welcome to take this to another topic that's actually related.

There are, like a dozen threads about reconciling VRGtR stuff with older lore. This isn't one of them.

Isolde, tone down the violent bashing. I think that we can understand your point of view without it.

I've highlighted a few of the tone-at-dial-10 examples.

Can we get back to the thread's actual topic?

So we talked once about exapnding the Iron Faith's lore to make it make more sense from their point of view. Does anyone have ideas?
